Warhammer Fantasy Mod 2.0

It would be nice with an offensive unit, shouldn't there be an undead rider joining the Khemris, so pleeeeeese if anyone of you out there who are good artist, make one for embryodead.

I just downloaded the Warhammer Mod. All of the king units come up as a Zombie. How can I fix? I used the editor and set all of the king's with their correct civ, but that did not help. Any suggestions?

More killing maybe. More Warhammer is what matters really when you get down to it.

There's a setting called something like "play without civ specific units/abilities" or something like that, in the player setup screen, which can give very strange results to modded games, check if that is checked, and uncheck if possible.

You don't have to mod the biq yourself to get civ specific king units.

ok, i want to know how people have done while playing chaos in the game.
I ask this as i've found them a hard race to play. The 1st thing is they start with NO advances, and not being scientific or expansionist have a hard time in getting the advances. Also, they are the only race i've found so far that don't have either public excecutions or slave trade.
Troop wise, they seem average so far. Beastmen are good at the start as they need no resources, other than that they have no real defensive troops (not got to the deamons yet, research SO SLOW) :(
The only benifit I can see (not got there yet) is after they have all deamons & sewers, they should have a lot of money to spend on espionage with big armies to back them up. but they once again fall into the NO good 4th era tech :@
I just wanna know how other find the different faction.

Additional, going with the above statement, what do people think of the different different race abilities within the warhammer mod?
To start, Religion V's Scientific.
I think that religious is not as good, due to fact you do not have gov changes, whereas the scientist get the benifit of the spells from wizard towers quicker.

To chocmushroom:

The hirdstones are an extremely advantage, if you play right, to play chaos, think expand, expand, expand, expand, the very fast hirdstone thing, that lets you culture grow very early in newly taken/built cities are so damn great, a real winner.

Hello to all
I try the Warhammer mod today and it always crash after a few turns with the following mesage : "unable to load Arts/Units/Medieval Japonese Settlers/Medieval Japonese Settlers.INI"

I have the Civ III Complete Edition and I have unpacked the WH mod directly in the Civ III file.. so I don't undertand what's going on !
By the way, I'm the editor of the French magazine PC4War (check www.pc4war.com), and I would like to include this mod in our next issue, but I want to be sure that it's work, which it does apparently reading this forum !
Help !

I must admit that the power of expansion is ok, but I don't find it that great. Early in the game it can be of benifit, but I don't think as much as having No starting tech. Late in the game it is not as good as being able to build skeletons.

Well, you can upgrade the beastmen to minotaurs, as far as I recall, and the minotaurs are good units. If I remember correctly their stats are 6/6/1. I've played Chaos a couple of times, and their start is a bit trying. Being able to build Herdstones is, as some others have pointed out, a big advantage though, if you're able to set up one or two settler factories. Chaos is not my favorite faction, their unit ensemble is a bit too chaotic for my taste. ;)

mrtn has urged me to voice my opinion on this mod, and I have to say it's brilliant. I've spent far too much time playing Civ3 in its different variants, but when I got my hands on the warhammer mod, there was an exponential increase in playing time. I just can stop. There is so much variation, both visually and strategically between the tribes. There is always some new idea or strategy I have to try, or some unit I want to check out in-game. I'm looking forward very much to the release of the 2.03 patch. An insane amount of thanks to all who have been working on this mod and foremost of course to Embryodead for totally wrecking my spare time.

What I do miss about chaos, if we compaire it with the tabletop is the quality and superiority of chaos warrior and especially the chaos knights, especially if you add the khorne armours. I can admit that I haven't played chaos (tabletop) for a year or two, so perhaps they have changed that. But chaos warrior and knights was always better (and more expensive). In the warhammer mod chaos warrior and chaos knights aren't any better (often worse) than any other equivalent units. On the tabletop game my (small, expensive) chaos knight squadron ruled the battlefield.

Another quite boring thing is that when we come to the "flying unit age" the AI often doesn't even longer build any other units than that, which mean that the heavy flying unit is not a heavy support unit, but the mainstream unit. In a game I played the other day, my neighbour (Tilea) only built their flying griffins. This takes away most of the tactical thinking of the game, I usually quite when I comes to that age, as you usually already know if you are going to win or loose.

Can't any of you "artist" re-model an undead chariot for the Khemris, I have never played undeads or met them on the tabletop game, so I don't know what they should have, but I think I have seen a skeleton charioteer somewhere.

Demonmaster, I also remember the strenght of the chaos warroirs, but the chaos knights were even better. With barding & khorne armour they did have a 1+ save :D
I also remember that I could also get a whole unit of 30 goblins, with a champion for less than a unit of 5 chaos knights
Chaos were THE most offensive army in the world, but they were also VERY expensive. It would not be that hard to get that into this game, as cost is not the option except in shields terms
The fact that I played even before there were named chaos powers, but as i've not played it for over 10 yrs, things may have changed since

Horrifyingly my computer's just started messing up really badly, and my CD drive's stopped working. Once I found a quasi-legal solution I breathed a sigh of relief though... I'm more concerned with not being able to play this mod again than having a broken PC!

Things have not changed Knights are still very powerul and expensive. Warriors amy have changed a little im not sure but they are still some of the best you can get.

If you get some of those maps where everyone starts off next too eachother and there is hardly any room as chaos you can beat the snot out of anything. Even creatures without any snot!

PC4War, I answered your PM.

As for the chaos discussion.
- It is one of the most powerful factions in the mod. At most points they have better units than others. They have good bonus buildings/wonders. If you want a difficult faction to play, try Dolgans :P

- I know that Chaos Warriors and Knights are expensive and powerful in Warhammer, Chaos was my first army :) However, their stats are like that because of the game reasons. They have the "heavy" tanks like Chaos giants and trolls, but they also need cheaper ones. If all chaos units are better than anything else during a given era, it will be an overkill. Again, they already have probably the best set of units in the mod. I wish you never meet an angry pack of 100+ chaos trolls accompanied by minotaurs.. no knights can stand that.

- Flying creatures take over the 3rd era because of how civ3 works. There are limited stats and AI builds only best defensive and best offensive unit most of the time. The only solution to this is to make all such creatures wonder generated but honestly I don't like it. I don't like all civs having griffins produced at the same rate, and I don't like the fact that such wonders are powerful on small maps but on huge ones they are pretty useless, because they can't adjust to the size, while unit production can. This will be probably more enjoyable in scnearios, when they finally appear that is :\

If you want to play a really difficult (and/or time consuming) civ, play Khemri.

I have actually won with Khemri, on a huge map, by conquest. But you can be sure of one thing, never, never again. When the best units (except zombie dragons which comes at the end anyway) are skeleton minions/liches and the skeleton generating wonder, that is alot of skeletons to move each turn. I had stacks with 10, 20, 30, 40 in each and alot of stack. I met chaos (he was on the same continent), okey 70% of a stack died because of the chaos units, but I just had to many of my boys, he didn't killed all of them before I destroyed his land (removed every road, etc.). At the end I only played a couple of turns a day (I do have a job to go to).

On the khemri:

Actually, I think the khemri are a pretty strong civiliazation, the successful strategy for playing as them is tedious, though, as Demonmaster remarked, iit means moving TONS of skeleton warriors around. But they're dirt cheap. Its more fun on a small map, since this decreases (probably exponentially) the number of skeletons you need to conquer the world. It also means that if you rush through the tech tree just to get skeletal warriors, the sooner you start building your army and subsequent quest for world dominations, the better.

(I played a game as the Khemri on a large map, & gave up. I was winning but it just wasn't fun anymore)
