Warhammer Fantasy Mod 2.0

whats the advantage or the mechanics behind a 9/3 marksmen with a bombard of 4 0 1??

i thought bombard kept you safe from counter attack because you didnt enter the square.. but with range zero.. what determines when the attack is calculated as bombard a 4 .. or when its ATT/DEf 9/3??

im trying to devise a stratagy.. for best use any one know how the code deals with that and determines.. whihc stats are used ?

If you attack a unit with bombardment (ranged or not, doesn't matter) that unit will attack you first, before your attack, number of times equal to the rate of fire. 4 0 1 means, the unit will attack with an attack of 4 one time (can take one hitpoint). A range of 0 simply means that you cannot offensively attack with a ranged attack. A unit with a zone of control can do the same if an enemy walks from an adjacent square to another adjacent square.

Slight correction: If you attack a unit where there is a bombarding unit also on that square (which hasn't bombarded that turn), the defensive bombard takes place. I've only ever seen defensive bombards do one point of damage, I don't know if they can do more...

You CANNOT use your defensive bombard to defend yourself.

okay... so when or were does the 9/3 att/def stat come in??
seems like youd always be using the 401 stat

When you attack normally or defend normally - the 4/0/1 is the bombardment stat, the 9/3 is the normal stat.

A question: What will happen if you make a longbowman with 6/2 standard values and 4/0/2 bombardment value. You can't attack with bombardment, since range 0, but the rate of fire is 2 so shouldn't the unit attack twice defensively, just wondering?

Rate of Fire is completely and totally ignored for defensive bombardment. Units with ROF 0 will still fire a single shot defensively. Units with ROF 10 (max) will fire a single shot defensively.

Yet one more hardcoded failing of Civ3, unfortunately.

I think that we all can agree on that all music save the first age sucks for the WH mod. Since it's quite possible to switch music off and run an mp3 player in the background I was wondering if anybody has any tips of good music? Conan the Barbarian works for the Dolgans. Some tribal Burundi stuff would be cool for the Slann but I know of no artists. But after that I'm pretty stuck. Any ideas?

Thanks for the information Zurai. Personally I miss the old scripting part of making a scenario, much more possibilities then.

@drzoidberg: I listen to movie scores most of the time when I play this mod - like you said, conan ost is great for dolgans - the 13th warrior works for most factions, but I think especially for Norsca (haven't played them yet, but I guess...). Braveheart OST or some bagpipes (or pogues/dubliners) should do nice when playing Albion. All the LOTR scores work well with the mod imho.

Dead can dance and Lisa Gerrard maybe for the more kitsch-influenced civs like Bretonnia.
Then, there are some medieval influenced bands like corvus corax that could go well with the mod, but I don't know them too well and have heard stuff from them ranging from "quite nice - for the right setting" to "utter crap".

I usually just think of any movie I'd associate the civ with and listen to the score (so - nippon - last samurai/hero ost, sylvania - maybe some dracula scores - any oud-music for araby, sitar for ind etc... or sometimes you could just set up a playlist for a civ, like parts of the omen soundtrack and matching stuff from other scores for chaos...).

You could try the music from a shockwave game called zuma for the Slann (The game revolves around a toad god!), if you know any way to play an "mo3" file...

Battle Magic allows you to build lightening bolts and gaseous clouds. They are the same price, but Lightening has a better range and damage. Why would you ever make a gaseous cloud?

Jonathan

@Freyland
Gaseous clouds have a rate of fire of 5, while lightning bolts have only 2.
This means that with one gas cloud you could take up to 5hp from an enemy, while with lightning the max is 2. But since lightning has more damage it has more chances to hit stronger enemies.

hey guys, sorry if this question has been asked before... how do you solve the 'Ulriczeit' time period and the mechanism that destroys a civ everytime one city is taken?

Please post a solution or a link for me. Thanks.

Embryodead what is in the 2.02 patch that makes it so special?
Just wondering whether or not it is worth me spending my time downloading it even though I have ADSL and it will only take a minute or two.

You can turn of teh entire civilization being destroyed after you capture one city, when you open load up teh MOD, and you can choose your civ, down the bottom there are lots of little boxes just above the difficulty selection then you should uncheck the box that says elimination, (an unchecked box should not be blue)
I hope this is of help
