[Warlords] Battle of Hastings

I agree, if anyone is willing to head up a BTS middle ages mod, I can help out there. (The Byzantines or Carolingians/Franks have to be in it though.)

How difficult would it be to port my mod over to BTS? It's all XML (atm), so using Filemerge (well Winmerge if someone else did it) I think I could handle it once I get BTS.

It wouldn't have the Byzantines or the Carolingians :D  , but it would be easier than to start fresh, right? :)

I would reccomend starting over. BTS adds a bunch of new xml tags, and IIRC, loads/reads some xml files differently to accomodate modular loading. Also, starting over gives you a chance to redo some concepts. Also, now that you have established interest in the project, you can use the forum as sounding boards for ideas. Out of curiosity, on the Crossfire system you use to run Colonization, does it run the mac version or the actual windows version? If the windows version, you wont have any of these issues hopefully. (IIRC, you might be able to go to sdk changes to the mod if you get that far)

As to the Byzantines/Carolingians, the Normans or the Capetian Franks are good enough.

Crossover runs the Windows version of Civ. In theory. In practice, I haven't had much luck getting it to run that way, but some people have.

I'm sorry I couldn't be more help in getting things running Flintlock, but much as I love my Mac, I think you do need to be running on the Windows side if you want to mod.

I think I'll start going through and redoing this mod for BTS in about 2 months from now. I had hopes that I could develop for mac users (and Windows users w/ Warlords), but it seems to fully mod and have my work truly appreciated, I have to mod w/ BTS. I place some blame on Aspyr for not providing BTS, and an SDK, and for giving us late and not so great ports/patching. I hope for the next installment of Civ that the mac community is much better represented.
Well enough dreaming for me; ( :deadhorse: ) I'm stepping over to the 'dark side.' :assimilate:

As for Crossover, I love it because I got it for free w/ the lame duck challenge, :D I don't need to own Windows, and it is fully integrated into the mac (no booting in Windows!) I just don't like having to make workarounds to get Civ running, and not a large variety of programs run on it (i.e. Sceneviewer). I'm also not so sure that I'll be able to mod the SDK with it.

I'm excited to start in on BTS, and in the meantime I can learn some new skills and be better prepared for my new mods. Right now I'm making a Chevy Special Deluxe, and I will and some armor and guns to it, and use it to learn custom animation.
It's just a rough model right now, but take a look if you'd like...

I've been having problems with this mod, so it is on hold until I get the Windows Versions of CIV and port it over to BTS. There has only been on person using Windows who has been able to load this one up, and I added in his fix, but to no avail. The person also was unable to load the scenario, so the playability count on Windows is a zero.

I'm sorry but I'm not going to try and fix this unless there is a huge uproar (not likely :D ). I guess unless you or someone else can work this out, this mod is unplayable until I port it over (about 3-4 months to a release.)

OK Flintlock, I got warlords.

Sorry for taking a while but I got it the day before my spring break vacation!
:woohoo:
  :bounce:

Beta testing now would be great!

Well you can download this on the front page, but I'm holding off on this project until I get BTS. You or anyone else is welcome to discuss this here, but I won't be updating this Warlords version. As it is, this version is very playable, and quite enjoyable I think :D , but I won't be updating the Warlords version of this.
Sorry to stop this development so soon after the release, but the issues with Windows basically killed most of the interest in this mod.

Gave this a look. Things looks very nice and I didn't experience any technical problems moving units, managing cities, etc. But it was a very quick look see and I have Warlords 2.13 on a pentium iMac. As far as gameplay and balancing goes, in order for me to give any kind of appraisal I'd have to go back to Civ III and play a few turns of the "War in the Pacific" scenario to get a feel for it. I don't know what you need from a tester, but I could probably give this a little time.

Hey iggy, thanks for checking this out!
Unfortunately due to issues with Windows players, I'm putting this mod on hold until I get BTS and port over to that. I would still very much appreciate any notes/ideas on how to improve it, but until I get BTS, I won't be updating it.

Beta 0.11 Released

Okay, I've been working on a Colonization mod, and I ran into the same problem as this mod. I was able to fix those issues, so I decided to make the same amends to this mod. I'm not sure if this will fix it up, but I'm hoping so.
I need some Windows users to check this out and tell me whether it works or not. This mod is still on hold, and probably will remain so, but I just wanted to see if what I did helped out or not. :)

First: I can't really load it.
what does this mean, you'll ask.
First, by accident, i loaded it in german, i came to the main menu, and had no text. Okay, i switched back to Warlords, changed it to english, loaded it again...bang, read/write-error during loading. Checked my hdd, did not make any difference. Tried it again in german...works (without text).
-> So there's a problem with the representation of the characters.
It crashed, when i clicked on this alexander like leaderhead, second start i got an error in the diplomacyInfos.xml.
Also i couldn't find the map (okay, it's a bit difficult without text).
I also made a screenshot, to confirm what i say.
I hope, it helps :).

I have Windows XP SP2.

The reason the text doesn't show up in German is because I deleted those tags... is that illegal on Windows versions?
Ughh, I though this would work, but I guess this mod is just to screwed up to work. Its amazing what the Mac XML allows which Windows doesn't (and vice versa.) Is the Windows version picky with Syntax? I know one of my old editors seemed to screw with that, and I've come across some of them while using my new one.

I guess its back on hold for this one. Sorry guys.

What i forgot: I have an old hdd with some problems, so it would be good, if someone else checks the mod.

Yes, it is.
If civ finds somewhere german tags (like for the main menu), there's a high chance, that you do not get any text in the game.
But should be no problem, because when it's in english, you can change to english before starting.

What syntax do you mean directly?

But however, it seems not to be a problem with the syntax, i think it's more, that the "inner code" of mac codes some signs to illegal characters in windows.
I would not be suprised, if you couldn't play with windows xml text files.

I guess its back on hold for this one. Sorry guys.

Keep on going :), don't let it die.
