Warlords - will it affect saved games?

Just bought Warlords, I was about to install it then I thought - "what if Warlords makes my current saved game go wrong?"

Does anyone know etc? I really dont want Warlords to stop my current save working, I dont have any mods installed except civscale.

It doesn't affect Civ4 vanilla at all. It creates a separate executable, separate folders for your Warlords saves ... and so on.

Each batch of saved games seems to have its own directory. You choose launch the game with the warlords exe and save warlords games, or opt for a basic game with its basic saved games.

I tried loading my old saves in Warlords, and it didn't seem to work, even when I moved them into the Warlords directory. Can you load vanilla games into Warlords and then make them Warlords saves?

I don't think so. They are different games with different save file formats.

It won't work. I tried renaming a Civ4 save file and it crashed Warlords.

It operates wholly independant from civ4. I think all it shares with vanilla are the core data files. Its mods, saves, and everything are in their own folder.

Yeah I was being stupid asking this question, should have realised it was the same as Civ 3 - each one has its own executable. Shouldnt have bought Warlords just yet coz its going to take me another 2 or 3 weeks to finish my current game!

You can use your old executable to play vanilla civ. (wondering why they did this though, usually games don't do this do they?)

Yes, they did it with both Civ3 expansion kits. If you buy Civ3 Complete you get all three executables. The difference there is that each Civ3 expansion could read saves created with the earlier one. That doesn't seem to be the case with Warlords.
