Sorry if this has been covered - can't find it with initial search of these threads.

Since installing the latest BTS patch, I'm getting the following warning after eight to ten minutes of play:

"Warning: Temperature too high. Please check your fan and heat sink!"

I noticed that the computer had risen to 106 degrees Celsius. After four minutes without Civ4 displaying, it had reduced to 91 degrees Celsius. I made some graphics changes and things were a bit greyer. However, after another four or five minutes, it was back up to 107 degrees.

Can anyone help or comment please?

What kind of CPU is this? It's far too hot for most that I can think of.

My Phenom II 955 BE is overclocked at 3.7 GHz and never gets past 48 - 49C at maximum load. My room mate says to make sure your fan is ok and spinning, and that the heat sink is properly fastened and secure before playing games again. Unless you're really pushing that chip, 91C at idle is too high. (IOHO)

That warning usually means the safety trip in your CPU is about to start to throttle the clock speed, if it hasn't already, to prevent damage. It isn't something to ignore.

Good luck.

Many other games such as Empire:Total War and Dawn of War II run quite well with no sign of the above mentioned error message. My desktop coped quite well during a hot summer here on the Gold Coast (eastern Australia), but it is now winter and overnight temperatures have been fairly low. I've only recently returned to Civ4 and thought that the patch may have had something to do with the problems.

However, thank you LM and TF; I'll have a look at that fan.
