Wasteland 2 at Kickstarter

Oh, I see Mr attackfighter has ensnared someone in his meme-trap after all.

Oh, it's a meme... how droll :rolleyes:.

Well, so long as attackfighter is being funny I can assume he isn't being serious about that Twilight game being better than Planescape :mischief:.

And I can assume you're not being serious about calling Bloodlines "that Twilight game". At least I hope you aren't, since Bloodlines is an amazing game. Maybe not as good as Planescape, no, but top tier none the less.

Why do they have to spend all the money they get? And why do so many people act like this is plain philanthropy if you get swag with it?

To Mr OrsonM
Yes, buttons, switches and levers they are all here indeed. But as Mr attackfighter so aptly put it (with a slight hint of sarcasm there, or not), this way it seems a bit more personal. Also it has to do something with me remembering quite fondly The Age Of Posted Letters.
The smell of paper, ink and other paraphernalia, the "ritual" of writing - it was...intoxicating.
Best wishes

It also seems a bit more illegible.

I'm going to be honest and admit I have only read one or two of guygodbois' posts, not because of how he addresses people but because of the lack of proper spacing and excessive formality.

Well I'm pretty sure patricians of old got the works they commissioned.

@Planet Escape fanbois:

It's a very creative game, with lots of content. But the acclaimed plot isn't actually very good - they played up the mystery behind The Nameless One but didn't deliver when it was revealed. Same with the answer to "what can change the nature of a man". The build up was good, but the resolution was disappointing.

@VtMB haters:

It has better dialogue than any other game. Also levels like the haunted hotel and Grout's mansion are very immersive. Nothing in Planet Escape compares to these things.

That made more sense when I wrote it. I meant why do they have to spend all the money immediately?

I am not being serious no, it is a really good game. Though anyone who says it is better than Planescape is obviously trolling, for one thing Planescape was finished :p .

This is all getting a bit off-topic though.

Edit: So, anyone who played the original, what was it like? I've heard it was sort of like a predecessor to Fallout.

Planescape was unfinished also. At first it's all fine and dandy - lots of content and reading (where the game shines) - but later on it turns into combat fest, same as the later stages in VtMB.

So any game that has combat is unfinished? :)

Either way, the planescape plot didn't actually really unfold until the last 1/3 of the game. That's the best part.

I completely forgot about this thread, but then my brother sent me the link for this project.

I'm not sure any more money at this point would be best, but I still feel the need to support it. Because I think in the future this may be the way to get games created that we want created. There could be a future for this type of thing. Big companies like EA have ruined Bioware, and it may be time to go back to the "roots" of game making.

I'd gladly give up money years in advance to get a game that I want, instead of some bastardized console trash (I'm looking at you Dragon Age 2).

That said I'm still not sure turned based is the best way to go. But we'll see how it turns out. To me, a game doesn't have to be turned based to be a good rpg. Fallout New Vegas is my favorite rpg, and that's a first person game. Giving the player lots of choices is what makes a rpg to me.

To Mr Disgustipated
My thoughts exactly, sir. Not really a big corporate fan over here either and I also do feel that this Kickstarter business might be "The Way To Go" (TM).
About that turn-based stuff: must say that I absolutely adore it, but you have a point - turn-based (by itself) does not an RPG game make.
Best wishes

Although turn based does work well if you are controlling a group (party), and if like they mentioned they do give the ability to split off your party members like Wasteland 1, that would be cool and turned based would work well there.

I forgot about that feature until they mentioned it. It was cool that you could split up your party. Very advanced for the time. I can't remember exactly how that worked though, and the best times to use it.

Sweet. We have a thread on this, but it's nice to hear news it's going ahead on this.

I want this to succeed for so many reasons. I want to see old school RPG's survive. I want people to see there's a market for them. Because after seeing what happened to Dragon Age 2, I fear for the future of the industry. I think in the future the only way to get games made that we want, is to fund them ourselves.
