WC 2006: Group E

I'm not going to comment on the rest of your points because statements like this call into question the validity of your entire postings because it is so ludicrous. The game is called football because it was derived from "Rugby Football" in the late 1800's. It is not some modern marketing ploy conjured up to take advantage of the popularity of another sport and to suggest so shows either a lack of any understanding about the sports in question or a tendency to extreme and ridiculous exaggeration, both of which would lead most readers to dismiss the rest of your arguments as likely to be equally unfounded.

The wikipedia article on football(in all forms) is quite interesting. I don't think any form of football can conclusively demonstrate that it is the first form, especially since the rules diverge and converge so much.

Not once did I say or suggest it was a marketing ploy. But if you think choosing the name Football, is solely based on the fact it was derived from Rugby, then hey. Keep wearing that Tinfoil hat.

Just like how I'll be dismissing the rest of your arguments, since you enjoy making sweeping generalizations and putting words into my mouth to bolster your own position.

Moderator Action: Now now guys - stay nice and stay on-topic.

For your comfort I remind you the topic is not "Football in the USA" but "WC 2006: Group E". No more off-topic posts, please !! :nono:
I don't want to warn or ban people for this, nor close this thread, but when required I will do it.

So it is clear now, Italy is going to beat us 3:0.

Our prime minister, J. Paroubek ( ), is going to Germany to see that match, and because he is a jinx, our chances are now equal to zero. The last time he attended an important game, we lost 4:0 against Sweden.

But what the ***, at least I am going to drink a lot of beer. Maybe then, our defeat won't look as bad :crazyeye:

I must be an addict. I get up at 3:45am to go to work so I can take another half day to watch the game at 10am. The US better not have a game like they did the last time I took a half day!

This link helped clear up the scenarios for the USA to advance.

Obviously beating Ghana is first and foremost.

7 is the best, winning a drawing of lots in the WC

That's for sure, but Ghana won't be such a piece of cake.

Yeah, since the USA has 1 SOG for the first 2 games I don't see them outscoring Ghana by 4 or more.

I simply don't want a tie with the US-Ghana. If the USA doesn't win I'd like to see Ghana spank them and get through to the next round.

I hope both the games end with a draw.
So that Italy arrives 1st and avoids Brazil, while Czechia arrives 2nd and this way Brazil will face a valid opponent that hopefully has some chances to knock it out.

I think the USA are in better physical shape than Czech Republic, so I'm not expecting a repeating of the free raids Ghana spent the whole second half doing in the czech half.
If Italy plays to their full potential, I think they'll beat Czech Republic, so I'll go with Italy first and the winner of USA-Ghana second.

Yes, there certainly is some, something close to 1% chance that we wouldn't lose to Brazil by 3 goals margin

I think both Italy and the Czechs will advance, either through a draw and Ghana not winning the other match or through a Czech win and Ghana not winning the other match.

Or in short: Ghana won't beat the US. ;)

According to ESPN Koller will be available to the Czechs for the game against Italy...

Seems a bit strange to me. If he truely has/had a strained/pulled hamstring his recovery would be almost miraculous...

Yeah, those types of injurees usually take a minimum of 10 to 12 days. It hasn't been that long...

I do not want a draw in the US-Ghana game. I hope one of those teams make to the next round. I don't want to root for Italy, but any scenario of where they don't win and the US moving on is rather slim.

BTW, if the US makes it and it's a close game with Italy and the Czech, would this, in hindsight, qualify as the group of death?

That's weird...I was watching Fox Soccer Channel Last night, and they said that Koller was definitely out while Baros might be available to play. :crazyeye:
