WC 2006: Group E

Ugh. And to think that I was eager to come home early from work to see a piece of this one.

Anyway, what was with that one guy being taken off on a stretcher and then being ready to go back in (early 2nd half, when Reyna got the yellow)? In America, you aren't taken off on a stretcher for anything less than suspected spinal injury. Career ending knee injury? Too bad. The trainer will be out to help you, now get your butt off the field.

I took a half day to see this ass-kicking. They owe me 4 hours of vacation time!

Italy might beat them even worse unless they figure it all out.

Whenever a US player gets the ball, it seems to bounce away 5 feet and taken away. Fvcking comical!!!! Any respect earned in 2002 is gone after 45 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111

Yep, like I said in the like/dislike thread; hard touches and bad passes. I've seen high school games played crisper.

Czech Republic just dominated, they are looking better than i expected. Shame about Koller though, in his last World Cup probably.

USA didn't seem to have enough movement, a lot of the time Reina picked up the ball and no one was making any runs. Convey put in some good deliveries but the strikers couldn't get on the end of it. They weren't the best defensively, failing to convincely clear their lines which led to Rosicky's first goal. When crosses came in, defenders generally did not mark up and got in a tangle; See Koller's goal and the header at the near post from a free kick which just passed the post.

Great, another ugly match...

At least the Czechs scored three times. But that's pretty much all the chances they had. Still a highly deserved win and with a 3-0 you can't really blame them, but it seems obvious that controlled defensive football is the thing at this World Cup.
The US on the other hand were a massive disappointment. No spirit, nothing, they didn't even seem to believe that they could score. And after the second Czech goal they were absolutely finished. Seems to become another boring group, unless Ghana can pull a surprise later today...

Predicted Czech to win this group, but thought they would start slower...excellent performance, not sitting back after a lead. It could be their world cup.
And for those who don't like them, at least they give us entertainment

edit: Hitro, don't be so negative, Czech can play some nice soccer...I am much happier they win than teams like Italy or England

As it could have been their european chamionships in 2004. ;) They had some awesome games back then...until the Greeks came.

Also they seem to have a reputation of having older players that they rely on so fitness could be an issue later on.

I guess we can blame Greece for showing how successful an organised defence can be.

Unless Italy gets very overconfident, i don't see much of a future for the USA in this World Cup.
this way they don't even win against Ghana. Looks really like USA was the most overrated team. Last Friday I told my American colleague who had to mention their Fifa ranking, that this WC will show that that ranking is all bollocks. :)

I always hear that but never see it, except for single scenes. I watched almost all of their qualifying matches, they were all awful. And this match today, I mean, often even Koller (later Lokvenc) were in their own half. Tactically fine, as it totally unnerved the US, but that is not "nice football". That is what was always critisised about teams like Germany and especially Italy.

And let's not forget that their opponent gave the worst performance of all maybe except Angola. Even Paraguay were more inspired in the offense.

That said I think the Czechs might win the group depending on Italy's performance. But beating Brazil? I don't think so.

I think that we Americans ourselves were tricked by various news outlets and propaganda!

2 more games until we see how fraudulent this whole thing was.

So I wish I didn't ask off for today now.

Play Beautiful... what a crock.

I'm still hopeful though.

Czech Republic is the strongest team we've seen so far. The loss of Koller and the unneccesary yellow cards could harm them, though.

True...
The midfield of Poborski, Galasek, Rosicky and Nedved is the best in the game, and that's where the US lost the game. Rosicky seems to be in incredible form. Best player I've seen so far in this tournament!

I was led to believe that the US has/had a good midfield. I think we left it across the pond. :)

That's exactly my problem with it. What exactly did he do? One good but lucky shot and one goal which he converted very well but to which only ridiculous defending by Oneywu and others enabled him to get a chance.
He is the sort of player that can shine against weak opposition, but during all his years in the Bundesliga he has always failed as soon as good opposing midfielders and defenders didn't let him have the big spaces he needs to be efficient. This also applies to other players, like for example Schweinsteiger.

Robben for example was clearly better in my view.

But well, we will see...

I've heard about Rosicky being "so very good" for years (even Pre WC 2002). I've never seen him being "so very good" - not even today. What did he do ?
