I've had this happen alot before, yesterday I'm playing this game on Noble, and the only AI keeping up in tech is Huayna Capac. We are pretty much tech trading back and forth up until the industrial age. All of a sudden he does not want to trade anymore, citing that I am becoming too advanced, what gives? Is there a cap on how much you can trade with a certain leader? I was friendly with him mostly as we shared state religions.

Later on he has a ton of technologies, and he still doesn't want to trade, by then our rivals had caught up to me and I started trading with them but HC was way ahead by then and still scared of me getting too advanced.

Each AI keeps track on your trading with itself and other AI's and when it thinks that you've traded enough, it WFYABTA's you. The exact definition of "enough" depends on the leader.

There is a small chance for the AI to forget one of your trades with others, and start trading for some time again, I remember reading.

Friendly AI's never WFYABTA you.

Speaking of which, what does "You have become too powerful for us" mean?

That would be one smart AI, in my opinion. I would have probably ended up using the technology to surpass them. How amusing! Do they really know this?

Do they really know this?

Well, they don't really "know" anything, they are just coded to stop trading with the human at a certain point. (I dunno, does WFYABTA exist in inter-AI trades).

I am actually already aware of this. I just like to pretend they do know. It adds to the overall realism. Wouldn't you agree?

If he won't trade with you,use your spies to steal his techs.

Meh, I suppose. Sometimes you really have to go out of your way to delude yourself.
