I would not have been surprised. The US is powerful enough (with or without nukes) and respected enough (or was) to get away with invading an unpopular country ruled by a brutal dictator. Jingoism is one thing, but leaders use jingoism to inspire actions they approve of; they don't get caught up in it themselves. Iran would only nuke Israel if it thought it could get away with it, and, nukes or no nukes in the US, it can't and knows it.
Besides, Iran also knows that the US would never use nukes against Iran. Why? Because the president that authorized it would lose the next election, and possibly be impeached even before then.
