Are there still any free webhosts around? I don't need any server-side scripting, nor any database support.. nor do I want ads.

Do those still exist? What's a good one?

If you just need the *very* basics there's always Google Pages. 100MB of space, no bandwidth restrictions that I know of. However it'd be tough to manage any semi-complex page on it, since you can't even do basic things like creating sub-folders (yet).

Why would someone give you a free server?

So they can make money off of the traffic you generate. In Googles case it may also include getting you to use their other tools and services.

Or they get money off the ads your site brings in.
