weird screen(not blank tho)

I keep getting flashing black lines/random splodges of black on the screen when playing even tho everything else is fine. ne ideas what it is? I have the most recent version of the game 256mb video card(nvidia) 512ram etc. pentium 4. help! is it anything to do with the screen resolution, if so how do i check?

Can you post a screenshot? Are your graphics drivers uptodate? DirectX?

direct x is up to date, tried turning graphics down etc, pretty much everything suggested on this forum. now civ wont even start 'failed to initialise render'. i only bought this pc a week ago and it was intended to be a gaming pc- all specs are high enuf. whats going on? is there nething i can do or should i just return it and go back to playing civ 3? am very disappointed as been wanting to play it for so long. is it the game or my pc? oh and i have a good enuf fan too i think..............aaaaargrgh
