I never see any plains or deserts next to tundra.

do you see that in the Real World, nope, its a game feature Tundra-Grassland-Plains\Desert-Grassland-Tundra

Freezing snow and boiling sand dont go well together :)

a "cold desert" is basicly a tundra if i remember correctly.

If your talking about the editor, i thought that TUNDRA must be seperated from everything else by 1 grassland... or is that conquest (just me?) only?

it doesnt have to be hot to be a desert.
desert are named based on amount of rain recieved yearly or something.

a area can be cool, warm, hot, ect. but its rainfall that determin its status.

so.. "not so cold but not very hot at all", get little rain.. = desert..
sand.. dry dirt or not.

... can someone confirm this?
been a while since ive read a geography/earth science book...

yeah... you're right. a desert can be a permanently cold region that has little vegetation and little rainfall annually.

If you try to place tundra in the editor next to plains or desert it will automatically place grassland between, just like land squares can't be next to sea or ocean squares.

And if you look in the civilopedia it says desert is determined by rainfall.

its a game feature Tundra-Grassland-Plains\Desert-Grassland-Tundra

Don't forget the often huge swatch of jungle dividing the northern plains/desert from the southern plains/desert (or are things different for C3C?). Oddly enough, desert next to jungle is common... :crazyeye:

The editor (and game) is also programmed to not allow some terrain next to deserts and plans. Load some world maps, and try to add plains, or floodplains around the Suez Canal, or where Kuwait is. You'll see some terrain added/turned into coast sometimes.

Tundra, for example, must always be surrounded by grassland.
