I'm not sure if i broke something but this start was simply ridiculous.
4 capitals with the longest distance between 2 being less than 15 hexes, on a large map.

Got any suggestion as to how to avoid being dow'ed on 3 fronts at once and still expand?

Spoiler :

And about 20 hexes west of gandhi are izzy1, izzy2, oda, wu, and maria theresa. Rome rolled a start to the far east on the coast, about 20 hexes away from everyone else and is locked down by various mountain ranges.
Apparently all 10 civs started on the same continent.

DoW them yourself and steal their capitals! Heres your expansion!! :D

I love weird starts like this, the potential for a crazy game is so great :D

I'd immortal rush someone - probably Hiawatha before he starts spamming cities everywhere. Then move on to Dido if you're strong enough, and box in Gandhi til he pops a bunch of wonders for you to steal. Good luck!

Care to elaborate a strategy? 3 capitals, all on sea, with plenty of hills, 3 civs with early UU's, on marathon research speed?

I think you're overestimating me, barbs won't even spawn for me to get a GG.

Honor opener for the GG and melee production bonus?

Do they all covet your borders? Some might not, even if close. Make friends with one of them early (Gandhi may be the easy mark in that regard), and if possible invite them to join the war against the others. That should at least avoid the warmonger penalty from that civ.

There's two ways to play that start:

-Wipe all 3 of them out right away
-Restart

Just think too, with 4 civs crammed there on a large map that means that other civs will have tons of room to expand somewhere. You'll probably end up with one or more runaway civs somewhere else once you deal with that.

I played it for a bit last evening, within 15 turns all were coveting my lands.
By turn 30 all had denounced me before i even got to pop a settler.

All 3 went pretty heavy down the militaristic line.
Ghandi appeared outside my city on turn 86 with 8 elephant archers, hiawatha had his mohawks by turn 110 (beelined IW, wut?), dido just went along with archer spam, very heavy spam. I don't like my odds very much.

And Kerosene31, if you read my OP right all 10 civs started on the same continent.

You're in a really strong position if you pull it off right. The others have good UUs but Immortals are better. Get Honor for a GG, beeline bronze working, pop a bunch of Immortals (buy some if you have to) and go kill. If you heal rather than promote, you should be able to take at least 1 city with 4-5 Immortals.

It's a shame that you don't have any room to exploit that capital. It's the most beautiful Petra city I've ever seen!

OMG

Which map type or map script did you use? I have never seen anything even remotely like this.

I think you should go for Ghandi as he is weakest and then expand to the west. Fight defensively in your capital if any of the two other DOW on you.

I'm using perfectworld3, but this still is a very weird start even by mod standards.

Care to post the original start save for us? Id really like to try thos out when i get back home..

Go for composite bow spam and zerg 1-2 AIs. Then go crossbowmen and take out the last one. :D

2 problems, i don't know what version i'm running. I cracked it so i don't have to deal with steams BS. And i'm using 2 mods. Extended Eras and PerfectWorld3 script.

I'm playing on prince atm, so it may not be a challenge at all for you, but for me it suffices. If you want i can still post it.

Nvm dont bother i dont have mods anyway, thanks and good luck with this if you try it again

I can always save the map (the actual map) and place starting units in the same position if you want, of your chosen difficulty, i have a lot of spare time to kill.

Anyway the map is actually amazing outside of the starting continent, watched it on IGE, 4 continents.

Hehe nah i like my maps genuine :D but thanks anyway!!

you could try to get the golden age out of liberty and spam immortals and march first to hiawatha and then to ghandi just cuz he's easier than dido (10 def to her 16). would be a crunch-time 10 turns though.
