WH Discussion Thread

:bump:
K, guys, I`m starting on a total conversion of the WH mod, for my own personal amusement, maybe I`ll polish it up and release it too, depends on what I get in the end ;)

Its going to be a post-apocaliptical sci-fi. I just got an idea, this very moment - the survivors from "Terminator" after defeating Sky-Net.

So, anwayz, I was checking out the tech tree, and found something that confuses me. Apparently, tech-line crossings are a bad, bad thing, and the Ancient era has 15 of them! So I rearanged the tech tree and ended up with just 5. I tried making it 0, but it ended up looking like a granade hit it, every time! So here it is, hope you like. BTW, I don`t expect mrtn to change the complete tech tree, but I think I`ll do it in my version.

Well, that might clear things around the tech tree a bit. But you'd have to make sure, that all the boxes fit on all civs (different civs have different amount of stuff available in those tech boxes).

You are right, Aaglo! I forgot about that. I`ll check out the sizes with other civs. Right now I think eveyone has the same boxes, except Woodelvs have a dryad at Irrigation, which isn`t a problem, and the Undead, who have a much bigger tech than it is shown above (blank).

EDIT: okay, about the differences - Araby has +1 unit in Ship buildign and Chaos has +1 unit in Warrior Code but those are not a problem. The problem are the Death Cults. Balistics and Magic should be moved a wee bit to the left, and the problem is solved :)

And I think I`ve found a way to stop those damn Estalians from ruling the world! They are Commercial and Agricultural. And Bretonnians are Militaristic and Religious. Shouldn`t the Land of Knights and PEASANTS be agricultural? I mean, what do those peasants do when they are not fighting? ;) And lets not forgot the one thing nobody expects.. - the spanish inquisition! :p
So I suggest that Bretonnians go Militaristic and Agricultural, and Estalians go Commerical and Religious.

EDIT #2: Is this better?

Game update: huge map, 60% water, continents, playing as the Gobbos against H.Elves, D.Elves, Ungols, Tilea, Orcs, Dolgans, Reikland, Kislev, Albion, Sylvania and the Chaos Dwarves

I crushed Albion very early on, so early they only got a score of 4! three snotlings against a peasant... bye bye Albion!

albion, kislev, CDs and Reikland are conquered, D.Elves and Dolgans are on their last legs, Tilea and the Orcs are struggling, the H.Elves and Sylvania are doing alrite (the sylvanians are gonna get crushed by yours truly soon ) and the ungols and i are the superpowers, but im easily better :D

some interesting notes:
Spoiler :
* magic units (wizards, necromancers etc.) seem to be very formidible on the defence. and i dont know why. one kislevite wizard managed to survive against five ironguts

* does the scientific trait increase the chance of a scientific leader appearing? coz i had four appear as i reached the start of the third age!

*this isnt a complaint, but vampires and vampire lords are INCREDIBLY SCARY!! fast, powerful and create new zombies

Answers to your spoiler (sorry if I unspoil them... or whatchammacallit).

* magic units have also defensive bombard. Also, some race's magicians are stronger than others. But I think that kislevite has pretty regular wizards. If you've attacked a wizard in a city, they may have had keeps and maybe castles there too. Or you just were a victim of RNG. Remember, that I once attacked an assassin on a hill (defence 2) with an Irongut (attack 12?) - and lost.

* yes, scientific trait increases chances of scientific leader appearence

* yes, they are supposed to be. That's why I suggested to mrtn increasing the costs (see the list you posted in post #1548)

Um, about those mages, a regular `ol wizard, with a defense of 3, caught in the open plains or grassland, without any pals to aid him with def.bomb., is a formidable defender, even against 8.5.1. infantry. I`ve seen this on many occasions.

I have no idea why that is, but it definately spices up the game, and I like to see the Artificial Idiot build them here and there :)

:wallbash: I mispelt third age in the spoiler of my previous post. i spelt it "first" :crazyeye: i've changed it now...

@ aaglo: i think the wizard was in a forest, so it did get a 50%(?) defensive bonus.

i know that vampires are meant to be awesome, but its still scary to see five or six of them suddenly run past your attacking units and assault a city you have just captured...

@ stormy: so you've found that too, ay? :)

hmmm.... I've had no trouble smiting them to jelly.... but that's propably because I was playing as Norsca :)

And when it comes to vampires - they should be scary :) (and that's why only two civs have them)

I was just wondering whether my idea for a grail knight was still a posability or not, I mentioned it a while ago and IIRC it just sorta faded away, just to remind ya I think that a grail knight instead of a dragon a bit like the dragon slayer the dwarves get would be a replacment foir a dragon unit for the brettonians....
