What are your modding plans for CIV IV?

Assuming you are going to be modding the game, what are you planning? A WW2 Scenario? A Middle-earth map? Adding a civilization you felt was wrongly left out of the game? What exactly will you do? :)

Let's see, some things I would do is first of all eliminate the animals from the game, if possible. I would also like to add the Celts and other Civs which were wrongly eliminated. If possible, it would also be nice to add various other religions to the game such as Odinism and Animism and whatever else is missing. If I get really good at modding I might try my hand at a LOTR mod. Time will tell. :mischief:

I would change the unit sizes, if possible.

I plan on seeing how hard it is to make units; assumign that

A)the units in civ 3 are skins on a wire frame animation

B)the wirefframe animatation scan be copied, and used with out the default skin (assuming A is true, B is almost a certanty)

C)that making a skin isnt really that hard, nor is it to put on a a wire frame animation

that I forse mysefl become a skin creator- but its too early to tell yet ;)

- I will remove the wild animal "barbarians"
- Might remove religion
- Lock the zoom, and use the same camera angle as in Civ3. I hope it is then possible to use Civ3 units, at least I have read that it might be.
- Plus I guess a lot of other stuff, but I have to play the game to see what I am not so happy with..

Risbinroch- Why? I think those are cool features, not a good idea to remove them.

I am going to focus mostly on map making in the beginning, then maybe scenarios.

-Age of Discovery,Imperialism and Crusades scenarios
-Improve Religion if it reveals to be the "weak link"
-Imagine new sorts of units
-Supply Lines

The last two may be quite difficult to do, though

And I won't remove the barbarian animals unless it's definitely unrealistic

Yoda: There is a thread here (or more) concerning the animal barbarians. I think it's a very bad idea for several reasons.

1.) This is civilization, and the game is at a more global-scale - if you were to control one single human, most likely a child, yes, animals would very well be a hazard.
2.) Animals also has a bad reputation withouth always deserving it. The wild animals could destroy your crop (elephants etc) and your livestock (wolves etc) but they should not be able to attack your units. Most animals are afraid of humans, and a unit in Civ are meant to represent more than just one person...
3.) Religion: I really don't like that any civ can get any religion, but I like even more that all religion are the same... Every religion gets to have missionaries etc. And it would just annoy me a bit if England and Americans are Muslim - even though it's just a game. If it's possible to add flavors, so that some civs favours some religions it would be better. But I really feel that religion should be more abstract, like goverments is going to be.

Also going to add new civilizations. I hope it is somewhat compatible with CIV3 in several regards, like it is possible to use leaderheads etc.

It all depends on how easy it is to alter your game though... I don't think I will bother learning Python...

Why??
Plenty of english people are Muslims, I hope this wasn't intolerance. I'd really like it if they could use different names for religious buildings and units etc. e.g. Church/Synagogue/Mosque etc. I also think missionaries are a bit to aggressive a name. I would like to see a unit that can be sent to 'introduce' a religion to another country/island/city just call it a monk or woteva.

I will make new civilisations. That means modding UUs, leaderheads and such, so it won't be as easy as adding a few lines into an XML editor, but I'm going for it as soon as I'm able to. I'm starting to learn how to mod Civ3, which is something I wonder I haven't done before (apart from changing the rules in the editor).

I will make Mesopotamian civilisations, a Finnish civilisation (a bit of patriotism) and then maybe a Polynesian civ. Time will tell.

No, it wasn't intolerance. But American and England as states, not individual person, should have less chance of becoming a religion they have never had IRL... Offcourse that could happen from time to time in a game, but I feel that there should be more chance of them becoming christian. But that's just me perhaps. I also feel the same thing applies to governments for that matter, it should be lesser chance of America becoming communist than for civs that has been communist.

I also hate the idea of jewish missionaries. If it is one religion that is not missionary-like, it's judaism... I actually hate the idea of missionaries for ALL religions.

But, the best solution would just to have all religions in some abstract form, where they are not called Hinduism, Buddhism etc.

That is exactly right. That way the developers could even perhaps make religions different from each other without the fear of public hatred. Players could easily rename the religions how they see fit.

Assuming Firaxis did their 3D modelling the same as any other Gamebryo game I have seen yet, your 3 assumptions are correct.

Numerous ideas worth to try in this thread already (wandering animals etc)

Colonization of New World scenario is in my mind but I fear I don't have time, energy neither required skill to do such a scenario.

:) i would ike to mod my hammers back to shields

and more religions like the pre-christian religions that where in europe it sucks that you only can use the religions that are still alive.

I WANT TO WORSHIP: odin/zeus/osiris name ol the classic god none of them are in the game that sucks

and where are the atiast why do i have to chose a religion maybe my state is communist and i dont want any religion :)

oh i want to mod that game

1. Mod the graphics scale---larger cities (maybe 1.5x at most), and 1/4 to 1/8 size units.

2. Add in meta-resources---beer, canned (processed) food, jewelry, computers, automobiles.

3. Add regional weather effects and calamities.

4. Real diseases. I'm thinking of making all diseases emerge from a particular assigned tile (per disease), and not emerge until that tile is reached. Counteractable by medicines.

5. Probably a few odd units where technologies are weak or missing.

Lastly, greater depth to the diplomacy, like stay out of this tile, or I'll trade you these tiles for those, or have this unit free.

I think I will leave Scenario making to the experts ;)! However, I think I will try and add a Supply Line Model and a Civil War Model to the game-assuming they do not already exist. Then, I will see if it is possible to alter the Barbarian 'Mini-Civs' so that they can have variable aggression levels, and be able to have diplomatic relations with them.
Lastly, I plan to see if it is possible to add 'Capacity' to railroads and a 'Trait' system to religions.
Assuming that I am not a pensioner by that time, then I might look into adding new techs, improvements, religions and Wonders!

Actually, I'm already planning a full scale mod to fix the features that seem underdone in the game so far. Nothing's finalized of course, but I'll plan to add new civs, units, leaders, features to religion, gameplay, etc, etc. They say this is the most moddable version of Civ ever? Well, I'll see how moddable it is. :)

(Of course, I'm absolutely terrible at graphics, so I'd be needing some help in that department)...

Yeah, from what I hear, Religion is still being changed and tweaked-even to this very day, so it may end up being a little less generic by the time the game hits the shelves. If they are, though, then I plan to try and change it.
