What art does FF need?

Hey WarKirby,

I know you mentioned in the Kahdi thread that you hadn't gotten the hang of particles but how about a preliminary Mammon and Oghma priests? PM me if you want to discuss this further first!

thank you :D

haven't got a comment from vehem if he'll use it yet...

I'll use anything I can :goodjob:

Will definitely be using the assassin (might tone down the contrast with the orange/gold parts - but otherwise love the colours and model). I'm also looking for a way to use the Sabretooth for the animal civ - excellent model. Hippogriff looks good too, but fits the same basic role as griffon - might include both for variety but would prefer to work out a more unique use for it. Possibly lower strength but with a cargo capacity (makes it ridable).

One thing that would be really handy is some better Austrin-units-on-Pegasi. Basically we only have 4 different models at the moment (all archer-class look the same when mounted etc) but if I had the models I'd quite happily allow all Austrin units to ride them. I'm looking at reworking the spell a little anyway. The Recurve archer isn't particulary Austrin/Recurve either...

Epic work here! :goodjob:
What programs are you using for the editing process?

blender/photoshop CS3

Also, I don't think the sabretooth is that great. Kind of hacked together. I'd call it the least of my works so far. It's meh. I'm proud of this hippogriff though :D

I'm not going to do mammon/oghma priests just now, until I know there'll be some use for them. Seems there's no shortage of needed things, so I'd rather not work on things that are mere possibilities. But if that idea is implemented, I certainly will.

Austrin units on pegasus-es sounds like an interesting challenge. I've not tried anything with units consisting of two skeletons (rider/mount). I might have a go at making a better recurve archer first.

Also, after I've done this hippogriff, I'll submit an improved griffon model that sort of came up naturally while I was working on it. The old griffon model was a really sloppy mess.

air units, multiplayer stability, two parts crown royal, 1 part ice, shake not stir.

Not done with the hippogriff yet, but I've finished my retooling of the base Griffon model. It's available here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=12326

I posted it over in the FFH art team blog too.

I can't believe this took me so long. One frustration after another. It still doesn't look right in the civilopedia due to lighting, or somesuch, but I'm not sure how to fix that right now.

Having some issues with the hippogriff. It's a more complex challenge than I anticipated :D

Since I've added the horse rearend, I need to assign a lot of new vertices to bones. Which I dd, and it seemed to be working, but I'm gettting some sort of node errors trying to do anything with it in nifscope. Will poke at it more tomorrow.

Speaking as a fan of the Mazatl and Cualli ...

... MORE LIZARDS!

Nicely done, WK.

Hippogriff! http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=12330

Took me a while to get the rigging correct. It's still not perfect. The tail moves a little oddly in the attack animation, but it's mostly unnoticeable unless you're looking for it. Tried my best to make it look as correct as possible.

My overall goal at present, is to gain enough experience to attempt making a model for Sabathiel. I'm not sure if it's still beyond my capabilities.

Warkirby: how are you animating these? i have a few modles i want animated but have no idea (well some idea, but i tried and failed epically a few times so gave up) on how to animate them...

EDIT: also magnificent hippogriff!

Right now, everything I've made is in some way modified from another model. Up until this one, I've just put the pieces in place and it worked.

For this particular one, I had to re-rig the rear legs. It's done with vertex groups in blender. there's a vertex group for each bone in the skeleton. You select the vertices you want to be linked to a bone, and assign them to that bone's vertex group.

Some overlapping between the groups is advised.

If you're needing to make skeletons from scratch, presumably for some oddly shaped unit, then you're probably going to need new animations too...

what kind of models are these? It might be a good idea to try making them work with the skeleton of an existing model, if possible.

The Recurve archer isn't particulary Austrin/Recurve either...

I'd like to give this a try next.

I know what a recurve bow is, so skip explanation about that part. But what should an austrin archer look like? Do they have preferred colors? Would they wear a helmet, or hood? a cloak? long, baggy clothes? tight fitting and practical? short and exposed? colorful, or dull?

Is there any existing unit you could most liken it to? and/or find some random inspiration picture on the internet. Someting for me to work from.

A levitating giant frog mage(if your warhammer savvy, a Slann Mage Priest), 5 hydras with 1- 5 heads, 3 elven mages and a rat. the mages can usethe ffH mage animations, the Rat could use wolf animations but the hydra and Slann will need new animations. im kinda shopping around for willing animators to help me out :p
