It's been a while since I read that, but I remember enjoying it. Ever see the movie?

I just finished Jean Smith's Zen Buddhism for Beginners and am about to begin Marcus Borg's Jesus.

That may be the only non-engineering textbook I kept once the class was over... but given the lack of liberal arts courses I've needed (or been able) to take, that's not saying a whole lot.

Most of the relevant sites are national battlefields... The Manassas Battlefield hasn't changed a whole lot except the roads are built up and serve as a primary transportation artery to get to the city of Manassas.

Following the battles isn't so hard even for people who don't particularly like or know much about military history if the author provides enough maps.

And if the play-by-play on battles isn't what you're in it for, your eyes kinda glaze over sometimes.

Yeah, I think I'm just bad at following written actions scenes. I tend not to pay attention to it as much as I should to understand it. I think what would kind of need is map-eye movies of the battles, showing how as time progresses how each unit does what and where. The printed maps help, but it's just to the same.

I remember in high school there was an online encyclopedia with map-eye movies of various wars; so the US Civil War movie showed how the state succeeded and the campaigns fought between the Union and the Confederacy. That was cool.

Cardgame,
Thanks for the welcome. I have been very impressed with the forum here.

A few other books that I remembered that are also good ones include:
-Coming Back Alive
-Into The Wild
-Under The Banner of Heaven
-ManEaters

Yes, I own it, not nearly as good as the book. I've read the book many times, but I love it. Ever read Sagan's Comos?

Latest issue of Skeptic Magazine. Skeptic Magazine, I love ya, but man, ya gotta lay off the homeopathy and psychic powers. We get it already!

And yet it is still endlessly entertaining.

Just read half of Henry David Thoreau:Civil Disobedience Surprisingly, I love it.

A Tale of Two Cities - Chuck Dickens

It was excellent.

Four Great Comedies: The Taming of the Shrew; A Midsummer Night's Dream; Twelfth Night; The Tempest - Bill Shakespeare

Flow My Tears, The Policeman Said which will be followed by VALIS. Both by Philip K. Dick.

I have finished the first one. It was great, really trippy as most of Dick's stuff is. He likes to incorporate drug use into central plot points a good deal, but he does it in a non-stupid way.

The next one, VALIS, is about some schizo named Horselover Fat...yea, I see a high probability for copious drug use in this one :p

I'm reading Foundling by D.M. Cornish, the first book in the Monster Blood Tattoo series. Its pretty good, its a nice fantasy world and well written.

So I've just received my latest crop of books and I'm eagerly digging in.

I've already blazed through Atheist Universe: The Thinking Person's Answer to Christian Fundamentalism. One day. It was good.

I'm still chugging away on Castles of Steel: Britain, Germany, and the Winning of the Great War at Sea. Thanks Cheezy, you gave great book recommendations. I've loved (and am loving) every book you've recommended. So far at least. But a 100% track record is good!

I have now, next to me:

Yes! 50 Scientifically Proven Ways to be Persuasive
Cat's Cradle
The Elegant Universe
Infinite Jest
A Thousand Splendid Suns

So much reading, so little time. :)

World War Z, Max Brooks. Very interesting.

High Steel (can't remember author, book is at my desk)

Both I've read before and are my favorite books.

Also the service manual for my RX7. As always.

World War Z was an AMAZING book. Who would have though the son of Anne Bancroft and Mel Brooks could write gripping zombie fiction?

I freaking hated WWZ. It was a horrible book.
