[NFP] What change would you make to an existing leader's outfit?

Frederick Barbarossa's Plate Armor. :p It didn't even exist when he was alive.
I feel they tried to represent so many different parts of german history, 1100s leader, 1100-1600s trade confederacy which somehow is an industrial district, probably refering to German industrial prowess in 1800s and beyond. 1900s unique unit, 1800s symbol on the flag. Both leader and civ ability is references to Holy Roman empire.

Basically it feels like the civ and as well the leader design/outfit simply tried to fit together like a thousand years of history in a single package.

Regarding Cleopatra, she was the first Ptolemy to actually attempt to portray herself as Egyptian to her subjects, so I'm okay with her not looking like a Greek.
All contemporary accounts, however, describe her as dressing like a Hellene, and her in-game depiction doesn't look much like anything any Egyptian actually wore.

Oh, she is very much dressed as pop culture Egyptian, as opposed to actual Egyptian.

I find it unlikely she never dressed as Egyptian, given her appeals to the people; certainly, she wouldn't dress as an Egyptian when dealing with Romans, however.

I see your in-depth analysis of fashion trends in 11th-century Korea and raise you "Tomyris has a silly-looking helmet." Based on my very rudimentary historical knowledge compared to the average in this thread, it doesn't seem especially realistic? It seems like a fairly sophisticated work of metal casting for a fairly loose-knit horde people. If anyone is a scholar of this, feel free to correct me.

She is depicted as an Egyptian goddess in some murals, but the clothing goddesses wore was Old Kingdom style clothing which no contemporary Egyptian wore. Beyond Egyptian style makeup and jewelry, I'm skeptical she ever dressed in Egyptian fashion.

You are correct. Scythians were known for wearing tall conical hats.

I am no scholar on the subject, but I visited quite a number of museums while in Kazakhstan. The Scythians were capable metal workers, and used a lot of Gold. Decorative items (like bracelets and necklaces), often based on animals (particularly deer, horses and birds) were common, as were a variety of intricate armours for use in combat and as a symbol of status. Tomyris' scaled armour is about right. Helmets were often made of Gold or Bronze, and ranged from moderately tall and curved to a forward facing point, to more dome shaped designs (the latter like those of the Mongols). Golden headbands were also worn. As far as I know, only women would wear tall conical hats; a tradition that largely continues today when Kazakh women get married, wearing a beautiful Saukele.

@Zaarin, I know you have some criticisms with Gilgamesh's attire, but is Hammurabi's any better? I'm curious to know.

And for anyone more well-versed in history than I (which isn't saying much :cringe:), is Cyrus's appearance accurate? To me, it is aesthetically pleasing, but I have a feeling that some of the features like his hairstyle were more-so artistic liberties.

Lady Six Sky's design is pretty on point for depicting a Maya ruler, largely because they based her design pretty closely to her appearance on Naranjo Stela 24. Her headdress especially sticks out to me as a wonderful visualization of the maize connection Maya rulers of the period emphasized.
However her depiction wielding a jade spear is disappointing as there are more interesting held items associated with Maya rulers. I would change her to wielding an eccentric flint scepter which would be more appropriate as these items are believed to have been associated with Maya rulership and had association with the god K'awiil who was connected to kingship.
I understand the practical reasons why they went with a spear since they were working with existing animations that featured a staff. They could've made it resemble jaguar pelt wrapped spears as shown in Maya art such as the Bonampak murals instead of jade though.

I've said this before and I'll say it again: civ 6 Robert the Bruce is probably closer to irl Freddy than civ 6 Freddy.

EDIT: The plate armor is completely ahistorical and makes no sense. It sticks out like a sore thumb whenever I see Freddy in my games.

"civ 6 Freddy" reminds me a lot of Gottfried Götz von Berlichingen zu Hornberg (1480 – 1562), also known as Götz of the Iron Hand, who was a German Imperial Knight (Reichsritter) and is known 'til today mostly for his famous imprecation "he can lick me in the a___".

Berlichingen stood 1498/99 in the service of Friedrich I., Margrave of Brandenburg-Ansbach and fought in the armies of Holy Roman emperor Maximilian I., seeing action in Burgundy, Lorraine and Brabant. (see the parallels?!)

No. They were just copying this

The cut is good; my biggest complaint would be the goldcloth and turquoise ornaments on the undertunic, which are both a little anachronistic. The indigo overtunic with the saffron (or perhaps ochre) tassels is perfect. His beard and hair could be better coifed, though; that's something Babylonian kings paid great attention to.

Not remotely, but I agree that his design looks good even if it doesn't look very Persian. Here's the depiction of Darius the Great a couple rulers later. Ironically Cyrus's in-game hairstyle looks very Canaanite.

What about Joao III's outfit? Is it just aesthetically pleasing, or is it accurate as well?

oh yeah that looks almost identical to how he looks in game. where's that picture from?
Idk but it was literally the reference picture for Barbarossa on Firaxis wall
Indeed, good finding!

I didn't follow the Leader Portrait Bingo closely back then, but it is true:

Ok, I did a general web search and found that picture on some dubious small sites and here https://en.uncyclopedia.co/wiki/Holy_Roman_Empire

In chapter 11 Fred the Red we see:

Frederick Barbarossa with a hint of subtle make up around the eyes and lips.

Chapter 3 Charlemagne is even more enlightening:

How about this one? Pope Leo asks Charlemagne's mates what they think of the imperial crown.

Something i find interesting is that Cleo's art reference is probably internal art considering we never found a 1:1 match plus it looks like it's in the same style of Teddy and Qin, yet she's greek styled (as it looks based on her bust). It'd be really cool if we got greek dressed Cleo as an alt leader
