What Civ Does the AI Play Best?

Strangely enough, the most dominant Civ in my current game (I'm Germany) is Portugal, followed by France. Portugal has been leading since about 2000 BC, it's around 750 AD IIRC (1000-turn game, though). The Russians are currently smashing the Iroquois.

Turks, Dutch, Iroquois, India, China, Egypt… all nasty. The Byzantines are a punching bag when controlled by the Artificial Idiot and for some reason the Maya tend to crash

Persia, Ottomans, Netherlands, Maya, Sumeria, Iroquois and Aztecs are the most powerful.
Dutch, Iroquois, Sumerians, and Maya are all Agricultural, Persia and Ottomans are both Sci/Ind, I don't recall Aztecs - the site lists them as Rel/Exp, but it still has the Iroquois as Exp as well, so ....

Aztecs are Militaristic and Agricultural. All the native american tribes are aggie.

The revamped Iroquois are a terror with those blasted 3.1.2 Mounted Warriors and their fast expansion rate.

On Regent I find the AI will be most menacing with Iroquois; time and again.

Iriquois are very tough, no doubt about it. Agricultural is even better, relatively speaking, for the AI than for the human. And it's about the strongest trait for the human. Commercial also favors the AI if it's mixed with a strong trait. In fact, Ision specifically mentioned the Iriquois as a very tough AI Civ when he discusses how the AI uses traits. Their UU is quite good and since the AI pays a lot of attention to attack strength, they know they're strong and can bully others.

The worst trait for the AI is Seafaring.

Religious might be worse on high levels. Mainly because it doesn't change anything.

I think agricultural less powerful relatively speaking for the AIs on higher levels than on lower levels.

Definitely the Iroquois. Also the Sumerians and the Mongols. For some reason Temujin does much better than Shaka, even though they both have the same traits.

I think all traits become less powerful for the AI's at higher levels, because of their bonuses. There might be an exception for Commercial/Industrious.

You mean in that at the high levels, since the AI expands quickly anyway that Com/Ind are more valuable?- More revenue from/development for that early empire.

There's no doubt about the traits being difficulty level dependant, down at Warlord, Exp AI civs do just fine (relative to the other AIs). Well, on the big maps anyway.

No, I mean that since the AIs have smaller food boxes on higher levels, agricultural doesn't do as much as on lower levels.

I dont think Seafaring is completely useless. In a game i had a while back, the Dutch were able to get both the colossus and Great Lighthouse in their capital, and yet they were smalller than me, they were ahead of me in tech, and had a lot more money than me. If it is on Pangaea, seafaring sucks though.

Don't be so sure. The ability to move half a dozen carriers faster and bomb your coastal cities can be VERY bothersome at times.

I don't think it's useless for the AI. It just doesn't use it as well as some others. It doesn't seem to settle on the coast more (still one off coast) and doesn't ever use suicide galleys to find the rest of the world. I may be dim, but I don't see what Colossus has to do with Seafaring. GL on watery maps is very good for anyone.

On Pangaea, Seafaring sucks for everyone, human or otherwise.
