Germany.

Or Berlin...it wasn't much longer the German capital than even Bonn. Not to speak of Frankfurt (captial of the pre-HRE German Kingdom). Cologne was twice as big than any other city for a millenium. Half of Germanies cities are substantially older than Berlin.
But, we always get that fisher town in the Brandenburg sand...

But Berlin is the current capital, the current incarnation of German unity. Through what has happened, especially during the Cold War, I think that Berlin has earned its right as the German capital.

You'd be surprised...
about Berlin, what is Germany in civ isn't clear. There UU is from ww2, fav/shunned gov looks like for post-war Western Germany, they have Otto as civ leader, and M/SGL are from Middle ages to WW2. What is really Germany isn't clear.

There will never be a civ named Apolyton. :D
There will also never be a civ named Kjdsfgoi.

Edit: rainmaker, I've already asked you this, but you haven't answered. Is your name related to Iron Maiden song?

Alright then. They just have a song named Raimaker.

And, BTW, there will never be the Iron Maiden civ...

Canada, Palestine, Kuwait, Mushroom Kingdom. :p

As a Canadian, i can honestly say....we have not done anything to deserve our own civ.

Quebec is higher up on the list then Canda...and Quebec is a province!

The Falkland Islands, Sao Tome and Principe, the Azores Islands, Lesotho, Azerbaijan, and the Maldives.

I wonder how many more countries people now know from reading this thread... :)

Well I'm SURE that Azores Islands will never be included because they are a part of Portugal!!!

I know the Portuguese are included in the expansions but they should be in the original games!! Portugal and Spain!! Talk about the most important civilizations on the most decisive era, the discoveries.

For those who don't know the Portuguese and Spanish signed the Tordesilhas treaty, this treaty stated that to avoid further confrontations the World would be divided in two, 50 50, each civ gets half of the World to dicover, colonize and convert. In Civ III you get the wonder Maggeleans Voyage. He was a Portuguese dude!!

Nowadays Portugal lost all its glory obviously, but whomever goes there(because I'm not living there at the moment) know how different that country is.

... So yeah!! Get Portugal and Spain kicking ass right from the start as it allways should. I mean who are the Iroquois or the Zulu compared to these Top 5 empires of History? I know their History but it's no match.

And the Americans...
Ho well... Country named after the Italian seamen(Sea Man) Americo Vespucci, it was he that set foot on America continent not Colombo(and nobody knows if he is Portuguese, Spanish or Italian).

But the Americans. 300 years old?
Of course it's undeniable the presence of Americans in the game.
But what about you chosse a civ in the game, the original ones on Earth that can lead to others. ? .

An example. The Portuguese started of as a united civilization called the Iberian Celts, then transformed to Lusitans, and then to Spanish and Portuguese. As time goes on you get to change your civilization name and leader, or you can stick with the original one if you prefer.

This would be perfect for America. To start of as indeginous indians, then native Americans, (then the british came)and creates the Confederacy and the United States... Sorry I'm don't know very well American History. But you get what I'm saying.

Maybe for Civ V no? ;)

Personally, I'd rather have Mali than another European civilisation (Portugal). Obviously, Portugal has contributed much to the history we learn in our Western schools (and to the history of South America), but I wouldn't like all the civs to be from the European cultural sphere.

However, I do think Portuguese were a better choice than e.g. Germans, but I guess Germany has better market for the game than Portugal does.
