If there is one thing I know, it's that I always have trouble adjusting if I've been playing an Industrious civ and then start a new game with one that's not Industrious.

I agree with Arrian's assessment of the Chinese. Very powerful. Probably the most dominating game I ever played was with China. Perhaps the best civ for whole game warmongering.

I voted for Persia, but that will soon change to India. India is amazing, I've dominated my current game with them despite being slightly behind in tech for most of the game. Rock on, Gandhi!

I voted China
there could never be TOO much military power hehe
with Industrious u can built up an army fast and also develop a huge advnaced empire
militaristic also makes ur units level up fast and produce leaders to rush wonders
rider is also one of the best UU in the game, it has a higher attack power than any other units in the medieval age other than cavalry
not only u can have a more powerful army, but also u can produce it fast (i can built riders with my capitol with 2 turns)
I was surprised how come so many little votes in China

egypt, china(both wary)...sometimes irquouis or japan (i am simply bored by the ever and ever again repeating tactics - so not that often)

my fav is germany..
1. scientific is a must for me.. Im almost always close behind my opponents and the free tech helps a lot, especially if you trade just enough techs to get to a new era and then get your gpt back with the new free advance :D
2. I dont usually build large militaries in the first 2 eras and the militaristic trait really helps against other aggressive civs. because of the veteran and elite units, its quite easy to survive a war against an opponent who has got a much larger military.
3. panzers.. I think theyre one of the best UUs because of the blitz ability. normal tanks have that as well, but its a lot more effective with a movement of 3 instead of 2.

Romans mainly, then Americans, Russians, and Germans not far behind. Altough as of late, I'm doing Random civs. The only Civ I don't like to play are the Zulus. Aztecs in a way to.

greece, u get good defences at start and it upgrades all teh way to mech infantry, plus a free tech each era is nice too, plus teh lowered corruption

can't beat persia's immortals!

Though I'm a bit late for posting my opinion, I'd have to say my favorite civ is France, closely followed by Germany and Japan.

The Industrious capability means more roads/commerce, plus the ability to take advantage of fertile jungles early on. Commercial is one of the weaker bonuses, yes, but it is great for rushing improvements in newly settled/conquered cities, and it does keep the corruption down a bit more. Though the unique unit is certainly not astounding (perhaps an extra attack on normal Musketmen, and then an extra on Musketeers, and you'd have a slow samurai that needs saltpeter... okay... so there's no saving this one...), I do like their fortify :-)

Germany's Panzers can not be stopped if used effectively, and if you're playing Germany effectively, you should get them before others. Getting a very high score with these guys is hard if you're going to rely on the Panzers, though. They come a bit late.

As for Japan, the Samurai is perhaps the best UU for the Medieval game, as it has the Musketman defense, the Knight speed, no need for horses, and looks cool (always a plus). Religious is great for wars, and coupled with Militaristic, nearly unstoppable!

Anywho... that was my rant... I feel good now...

Oh, and for those of you who don't like France's colour, simply change the Civ3mod.bic!

You're right: China is CooL
The reason I think China has so few votes is bacause people only vote one civ, and many (as I, who voted Romans), when itcomes to choose only one, vote in other of our top.
So, don't be disappointed. Many of the voters appreciate Chinese traits and UU (the Rider is so powerfull!!! :) )

I voted Persia, cause I had my first deity win with them.

My favourite is the French though.

Commercial and industious trades are by far the most useful and you get it right through the game. Whether you are fighting or not.

Though the immortals are strong for early game dominance, they battle to create early leaders.

Hi, all!

I'm Russian, - then my fav is Russia (of course). But...

Immediately after purchasing this game Russia wasn't any good but patch improved all slightly. Second step was after determining most favorable conditions for Russia. It is: Huge, Pangea, Warm, Wet, 5 bil yrs, 15 opps. In this conditions I usually play for Russia at Deity & win by Culture, Space or Diplomacy.
Little advice: never produce any Cossack (disrupting of their upgrade path is crippling!!!), try to avoid any war in Age after Ancient, Library/Univercity building rush is more important for you then acquiring big army.
Be open for any diplomatic activity after Ancient times (in Civ II all your spies was Vet - just for rememberance).
Repeat to yourself: "Best Russian wars was only - where Russia wasn't" (i.e. war for Greece independence, Afghan vs Britain, Chinese civil war, Vietnam etc.) then - behave accordingly.
Strange feeling - AI knows about high aggression level of Russia & respects you for that. Use that. Be Khrushchev beating your boot in UN assembly, but don't go to real war by no means!

Reminder: best Russian unit - its Scout. You must to find as many barb's village as possible & contact enemy Civilizations!

Take in your mind that you'll have only 16 cities as maximum due to corruption problem under Communism government (Communism was seriously crippled here in comparison with Civ II). Then - place them in "hive fashion" for taking as many place on chart as possible. Destroy any foreign Civ whose cities disturb your "hive". Destroy them completely for insurgency cause. Don't be gross for anybody else. It's just a business - nothing personal.

My second favorite Civ is - Iroquise. I prefer to use early "Expansion Dominance" then - their Expansionist treat for me is invaluable. Religious treat is must for Temple/Cathedral rush building. Mounted Warriors is nice extra. (This UU is really good in comparison with Cossacks, but Scientific treat has just been more valuable for me then Religious. Yes, Scientific is more important for me, then Religious & Mounted Warriors! Duh!)

Third favorite is - Aztecs. Their Jaguar Warrior is Scouts in disguise. (Little advice - produce them as many as usable, but never let them fight - you don't want your Golden Age in - Stone Age!) Religious trait is - never bad & has already explained. Military is - so-so, but usable for early Heroic Epic & culture dominance as result.

Fourth - Americans. Fifths - Englishmen. (I really addicted to Expansionist trait, but I don't like any wars - then no Zuluses ;) .)

Thnks & brgds, Alex.

Egypt or Germany do the job for me, though I have played with all but England.

My favorite is Persia. Immortals are very good unit and it comes avaible exactly when I want to get into war... 5 to 10 cities... technology advanced... some extra money... And I need to get those resources far from my cities...

But I also like to play with France, China, America.

But since I read Alex's tips I think I'll try to play with Russians !

I agree with Alex the best are the Russians.
On a pangea map and 3 scouts to start with you can get most of the techs in the ancient age (I am using the 1.19 patch).
As a scientific civ you get the extra techs and cheap librarys so you should be able to maintain the tech lead.
I like the cossacks and generally produce a lot of these.

I use America because of the industrious trait. The expanisionist trait is negated on the higher levels but being able to build roads and RR's faster is a big deal for your economy.

English have votes?!?!??!?!?!?!??!?!?!??!?!?!

I switch to swedish heheh
