What civs do you want in Civ 5 - Updated list

Well, you'd have to make sure Maya wouldn't be an Aztec clone, but I could definitely see step pyramids and possibly a jungle bonus. As for the Swiss, they have been much more reclusive in the modern age as opposed to other central European civs...
Yeah, I agree there are other European Civs just as worthy, especially when you take population into consideration. I was somewhat drawn to the fact Switzerland always remains neutral, and I figured that could play a part somehow.

EDIT: Or at least they have since 1815.

They've remained neutral, but only because the last time they were involved in a military conflict, they lost badly. Before that, they acted essentially as the mercenaries of Europe. Back when the Pope started using the Swiss Guards, for example, it actually made sense for him.

i'd like to see someone with a unique scout. maybe one with extra movement and sight. would probably fit best with one of the europeans, but maybe maya could get it.

I was actually thinking, when they'd announced the Spain Inca DLC, that the Slinger would be a scout replacement.

I dont know why we are always entitled as "the vikings", they only lasted 400 years and they are mistakenly known as simple, raiding barbarians.

But I can understand, people want to pimp their own nations a bit for the sake of gathering enough interest from the crowd, and the Vikings did do a lot of impact on the international scenario, but I can see most of you out there knows a lot about other civilizations than just your own. In fact, I dont really understand how you think the Vikings would fit in Civ5 at all, because they gathered both economic and cultural growth (as well as spreading it) through war and raids - and I dont see the game mechanism awarding this ability to any civ.

Should we be implemented in Civ6, I dont think anybody in Scandinavia would mind being called "Norse", as the little documentation that exists states, we more or less originated from and existed as one people, connected through various bonds, alliances, marriages and cultural influences for 6000 years. We were not even close to being Vikings before 300 AD and we are certainly everything but Vikings today. The berserker is a myth - desperate young vikings, with nothing to loose and everything to win, combined with a deathwish to sit with Odin and Thor in the halls of Valhalla? Most likely.

But the longboat was very real and is a great idea for a unit.

Huskarls?

Some kind of light artillery to go with Gustavus Adolphus?

Looking at the new Polynesian "civilisation," I can't help but feel that there is a world of difference between the Hawaiian Kingdom and the Maori of New Zealand/Aotearoa, although I think it is a good idea for the Polynesians to be represented.

I've always wondered what a Maori civilisation would look like:

Leader: Te Rauparaha (Hongi Hika as second choice)
Unique Ability: Children of Tumatauenga: Maori melee units start with Survivalism I and Sentry, enemy melee units lose 10% strength when invading Maori territory (doesn't include cities).
Unique Building: Gunfighter's Pa (replaces castle, city takes 20% less damage from bombardment, 15% less damage from gunpowder units)
Unique Unit: Maori Warrior (the same as the one in the Polynesian civ).

This is just theoretical, of course, and I'd like to see different ideas for the unique ability, cause I like to keep an open mind. I'd imagine the Maori to be an aggressive opponent, and stubborn defenders. Tumatauenga is the Maori god of war, and was highly venerated by the Maori as the creator of humanity. Te Rauparaha is famous for trying to build an empire in the middle of New Zealand, and Hongi Hika's conquest of the northern North Island has gained particular noteriety.

That's quite good, is it not? It gives the benefit of the Maori Warrior automatically, plus part of America's ability, plus other powers.

Great to see another kiwi in the topic. I'd prefer the Maori Warrior (As the civ is called maori and it would be bizzare to have a 'Maori Maori warrior') To be renamed Taiaha Warrior, and moved to Iron Working, as a swordsman replacement that doesn't require Iron.

Carthage and Phoenicians... hrm, Carthage was really a Phoenician colony at the start, and got really powerful. Dunno if they could be in the same game. I'd prefer Phoenicia over Carthage, but we have Tyre and Sidon as CS.

Portugal and Dutch could work well in a trading, empires and exotic goods-esque scenario (Think Dutch East India Company and Portugese colonies in South America) and there is a good chance for their inclusion, given there respective capitals (Amsterdam and Lisbon) Wern't included base game as CS, similar to Madrid
