I've also started demi-god. Here is a tough breakthrough. I started at the bottom, and waited until I could easily win on the level. Now, I'm pretty comfortable with emperor, but I'm having trouble with Demi-god.

I'm not sure if I'm canning it too early. I fall so far behind in tech ...

Those of you who win on Sid, my hat is really off to you!

Regent

I know I should be ashamed of myself but its hard

Totally depends.
Sometimes Emperor with an odd variant or horrible start, Deity when I feel like the usual Ari/Inf slugfest, Sid for a real challenge, Monarch for training SGs and CotMs.
But DG is the most fun level, it still allows for variants, and isn't that tedious for Industrial Age wars. Or, Deity with RaR.
On average that makes DG, and that's what I voted.

I'm new to this CivIII business, but have plenty of I & II under the belt. I'm playing a regent game right now, but it's not very challenging (I'm building a space ship just b/c I'm curious). So I'll give monarch a shot next time.

I play the scenarios on emperor or Diety and solo games mostly on emperor.
Anything harder usually spoils the fun for me, too much mm and AI pressure.
Emperor is the most fun for me all the way around ;) .

I play on Regent, and I still haven't finished a game. Most of them turn bad before I end, in fact, I'm about to go make a thread about how I should finish out my current game, which has gone sour for me already but that I know I can win (I've come back from behind to win a couple times on Warlord).

EDIT: Nevermind, expect it in a few hours.

I had a few games on Chieftain and then skipped up to Regent where I stayed for ages before having a pop at Monarch. Bit of a surprise initially but I'm winning most games I set up (ie pick civilization, map settings, etc) and about 50% of totally random games. Definetly found it useful to read some of the War Academy articles when moving up to Monarch: hope some of them will help with the step-up to Emperor!

I recently moved to Monarch and found what my Regent games were missing : challenge.
Man, it's great to fear once again that victory will escape you !

Masquerouge, you are right. The best games are those who are challenging to the end. At least this was my experience, I still have fond memories of one of my first games, I played abysmal and won by histograph. :)

Then you will get used to the difficulty, and when you win without major worries, you know it is time to bleed your nose on the next difficulty. :)

I go back and forth between Monarch and Emperor... looks like that puts me smack in the middle of the bell curve.

(Could someone switch Demi and Deity in the poll list, so they're in the proper order?)

Yay! Someone else who plays Monarch besides me! I'm going to be moving to Emperor soon though.

After getting somewhat comfortable at Emperor I decided to ratchet up the difficulty some. Most of my games are at either DG or Diety, unless the start looks too tough.

Losing on Monarch although I'm getting further along. I'm playing all over the place now that I've started playing the GOTM/COTM. Haven't won one of those yet

I can beat the crap out of the AI on Regent, but a Monarch victory still eludes me... I either end up on my continent with a science deficit... or a warmonger neighbor... and then it gets bad.... (remind me to tell you about the time I was using Immortals on Cav)

Because I enjoy playing as a builder and achieving cultural victories, my favorite level on which to play is Regent. However, if I'm in the mood for a different style of play (militaristic), and a greater challenge, I play on Emperor level, and generally win. I'm still looking for my first Deity win, and appear to have a good chance of winning in my current Deity game.

(I voted Emperor, because the poll seems to be looking for what level one can play on comfortably.)
