[GS] What do we know of the new science victory

Speaking of an above post mentioning AI not being able to stop you,
If you can fire lasers to speed it up why can you not fire lasers to slow it down..... or shoot it down... lol, that would annoy the player than has been clicking next turn for a while

If you can put a laser station in orbit, why not just aim it downwards Command & Conquer style? :D

Or they can just go to ludicrous speed :crazyeye:

Now, there, now. You want to reach the destination, not overshoot it by a couple of galaxies :)

It seems to me like the new science victory is by far the most involved or complicated of all the victories. Let's look at them:
1) Domination: just build a military and conquer all the capitals.
2) Culture: just build lots theater districts, wonders and other tourism improvements and basically wait.
3) Religious: Just build holy sites, and spam missionaries and apostles and convert the other civs to your religion.
4) Diplomatic victory: collect a lot of diplo favor and vote yourself the leader a couple times.
5) Science: research several advanced techs then build at least one space port, then complete 3 space projects, then complete the final expedition project, then speed it up by completing more projects.

I want a project to invent the Infinite Improbability Drive
And you would introduce the mice as a civ and the Vogons as a disaster?

What your wonderful post also shows to be is how people say every one is boring... but what alternatives are thrown out there.

Culture can be optimized by researching Computers and Environmentalism.

Diplomatic Victory points can also be acquired from the Statue of Liberty and getting 1st in Aid Request emergencies.

Can the speed be scaled by actual year instead of turns?

For example, if I launch the space project at a reasonable time, say T135 at standard speed, which is AD 500, there's 20 year per turn, can I get to the location at AD 560( T138)? Or I have to wait until I complete two light at maybe T140, and reach the destination at T155(AD 900)?

It is ridiculous for spaceship at AD 500 being 20 times slower than that of AD 1900( At which time 1 year per turn) Why my spaceship flew 400 years with 2 lights, but only takes 50 years if I build it much later?
I have a working theory that may account for the time distortions, but still cannot account for why a laser would expedite a spacecraft travelling at the speed of light. It is clear to me that our preconceived notions are precluding us from the truth of the Civaverse: What one must infer is that the planet as presented is actually moving at relativistic speeds approaching the speed of light in the past, but is slowing as the game progresses. Furthermore, it appears that time is being presented relative to a universal standard time .

*The non-math physics course I took before completing my bachelor of arts degree inspired me to this conclusion.

Cheers!

why a laser would expedite a spacecraft travelling at the speed of light.
One of many - The universe is expanding and the laser loosens the 'fabric' attached to expedition craft.

It is the future, if we knew the answer now we would be using it already. We cannot explain many things, all we have is theories that so far have been proven.

Or maybe they could build military lasers and target your ship. Instead of pushing your ship they would slowly chew through the hull and if they succeed to penetrate it before the journey is complete, the ship gets destroyed and you must launch a new one. There should be ways for you to defend and target those hostile lasers, ofc.

You hack their ship's computers and convince it to turn around and come home?

After posting this link with a nod to your "loosens the fabric" theme, me and my bachelor of arts degree will retire as gracefully as is possible from this discussion.

Because if you enter Orbital Weapons into civ, years and game iterations of turning Gandhi into a nuclear meme will be destroyed by the more efficient WMD...

however, we have the GDR already, soo… :p

I would love having ion cannons and mammoth tanks in civ :D that series was a lot of fun, I'll definitely replay it at some point soon.

I wonder has there been any news about the royal society? I'd really like that to be toned down or changed so it isn't as good with science victories.

It still has the same tooltip text, but I don't know if the % has been changed.

Missed opportunity to have the GDR nuke the surrounding area when it gets destroyed in combat.

The venerable @Wyrmshadow created a Mammoth Tank unit for Civ III, which made it into a few of my mods. :)

Yes please. I want all the future things. The harder the sci-fi the better.

I don’t care if the game is over by the Renaissance. I still want all the future things.

And then hopefully Kaiju to use them against.

After seeing the science victory in action, it seems to be way too easy to speed up your spacecraft. Provided you have the techs. People were concerned you would have to press a whole bunch of end turns, but that doesn't seem to be the case. It gets there quite quickly. Too quickly imho.

Yeah, I think it was because Quill was churning the laser projects in a bunch of cities in 3 turns each, and they add to the travel speed, so he got to over 10 light years/turn easily. His cities didn't have amazing production, so I think it was the great people he used for +100% space production (three times), which he got from the Nobel Peace prize. The ISS on the other hand seemed a huge waste of production, only giving 3 ly/t to the winner.
