What is Cheating?

I voted none of the above, and of course, I like pie... because I do.

I buy games to enjoy playing them. I don't buy games to force myself to play them according to someone else's standards unless it's a multi-player competitive game.

I don't play multi-player Civ4 because I basically suck at Civ but still enjoy playing. If I was into multi-player, I'd view such things as listed above as really bad habits for players to get into but not cheating if they're playing themselves.

If playing a competitive scenario from a save game or some such then everything not clearly listed as allowable options in the contest outline is a clear cheat.

regenerating-not cheating
quecha rush- not cheating-it's part of the freakin' game!
save and reload-as long its not for a battle, not cheating
world builder-cheating in general, unless you feel angry because after regenerating 500 times and just want a good spot

pshaw. pie has calories. the trink is that they're completely canceled out if you drink diet coke with it! my father came up with that diet plan when i was in junior high. for him, it doesn't work out that well, he's got more weight issues now than he did then :eyeroll:. but it works great for me .

don't forget to eat the pie standing up. anything you eat while standoing has reduced calories

opps. forgot the quotes, my apologies to the opriginal poster.

I wish to retract my spam like comment and just say that I hope in Civ 5 they adress donating units and have it impact you somehow with the other nations.

Heck, they could even make it something like the UN forces. For example, A UN resolution can send forces to so and so country to qwell unrest and it could ask you how many units you want to temporarly gift to the UN force etc...

Agree. I save and reload. A lot. I resent being beaten by a defender when the odds are in my favour, and I resent being given 23 gold for a native village.

I used to save and reload all the time, but it was definitely cheating since I was using it to win battles that I shouldn't have won.

If it's used only moderately (such as to undo a stupid mistake or to avoid ridiculous bad luck on the odds) it's perfectly fine. For instance, if a city is defended by an archer and a lone barbarian warrior attacks it and wins the battle, it's totally fair to reload to avoid this. Also, sometimes I'll tell a city to build wealth for a couple of turns while I'm waiting for a technology to finish so I can build a certain building, and I'll accidentally forget and notice 20 turns later that the city is still building wealth. It's also fair to reload in this case.

At any rate though, it doesn't really matter as long as you're having fun playing. But I have personally found that the game is more fun when you play by the rules. I have enjoyed the game more ever since I stopped using world builder to find all the iron, get rid of barbarians, etc.

I recently started a Continents save and what I did was enter world builder and kinda moved myself to the other continent by myself. That way after awhile of isolation I can sail to meet my neighbors and already have a vast empire started while they are fighting amongst each other for resources.

Plus owning a whole continent means you pretty much don't have to worry about bartering for resources.

I voted none of the above, as I believe you can only cheat if playing against others.

So submitting a game of the month result where you had broken any of the GOTM rules would be cheating, however if paying one your own the concept does not exist. I guess you can retrospectively cheat by bragging about your results later and claiming you did not continually save and reload.

I reload when I make a mouse error. I have arthritis, so I not accepting anyone telling me I'm cheating when I make an unintentional mouse error and reload. To me, Civ isn't an arcade game.

Reloading though, because your 85% combat lost, and attacking next turn, I would view as cheating though.

Best wishes,

Breunor

I play SP for fun for me, not that the AI can laugh. And also that i can test some ideas, to play MP better.

Quechua rush isn't even that good... it's the Impi rush! Just gotta hope for really really close copper.

Actually, it's the Vulture rush! I took out an entire civ (KOREA!; my brother's really mad at me now!) with just Vultures and now am sending my scouting (Woodsman III) Vulture on a pillage mission through the Netherlands.:king:

I love the Vulture rush too. All you need is bronze working (and bronze or
iron). Gotta be quick though as they've got a penalty against axemen.

I voted for Worldbuilder in all its forms. I save and reload only to find a
good starting spot. Eitherwise never, esp. in combat. . .. .. .. . happens!!!:)
