The overhaul is currently in progress...

I agree, the mod's in a great place right now, all things considered. And in the coming months I believe it's going to get better.

I threw my hat in for China though, just because it's got such a long and relevant history.

I think every single region is great as it is. There are just a couple things I'd ask for the map right now but they can mostly be reduced to nitpicking. Southeast Asia, Middle East and Europe got everything we've been asking for. I think I'd add Belgium but we could also use Netherlands to represent it in the meantime (an IRL "filler country" if not for their colonization of Congo and EU-related stuff).

Southeast Asia feels the most 'complete'. Only additions I can think of are more periphery, with a Dali/Nanzhao spawn to the north, and maybe a Phillipines civ based on the Tondo Kingdom. And a 1 tile, 1 city challenge hidden easter egg Singapore civ focused almost entirely on commerce that can buy air/naval/mechanized units but can only be played under a specific set of circumstances for something a bit different :shifty:

There's lots of potential for China though. The whole one China thing can obscure some of their fractured history. I don't think it should be broken up into multiple civs like India, but I feel like there's lots of scope for change with a civil war mechanic, conditional spawns on collapse/instabiliy of different dynasties or minor kingdoms & states breaking away. Nothing hardcoded or scripted but some conditional checks like X state/dynasty/kingdom can appear during a timeframe of say 0-500AD if the conditions are met, so it would depend on how the game played out

I mean the only thing to really add to China would maybe be the Manchus as a civ that is kinda like the Mongols. Start with an army in manchuia in like 1600, and conquer china. Honestly it really isn't that important. China has multiple collapses and rebirths that cover stuff well.

Africa feels the most underrepresented. Of course, within the continent itself, there aren't as many globally recognized historical cultures, but it would be wonderful to fill it out for the sake of representing its rich internal history and showcasing the diversity of intra-African gameplay.

Additionally, this would introduce an exciting new gameplay mechanic: a race for the colonization of Africa. The continent is vast, and after a rework, it would be populated with civilizations. Historically, however, Africa was colonized very rapidly—a phenomenon that is difficult to replicate using standard in-game mechanics. It would be fascinating to see the top five European civilizations (excluding Eastern Europe) receive invasion armies, perhaps around 1870. The strength of these armies could vary depending on each civilization's standing, creating a dynamic and competitive experience. It’s an intriguing concept!

I would like to see something like this + a Manchu civ in the future (like the Mongols their core is outside China proper, unlike the Mongols they need to survive longer than 200 years).

I would also like to see some more Africa happenings. The lower Niger river and Lake Chad area are just inhabited by natives and indies currently, there's room for an Italy or Greece "collected city-states" style civ there.

And representing the second wave of colonialism in Africa (and southeast Asia) would also be great to see. We've got the first wave of the 1500s/1600s covered, but after that nothing. I want to see France in Vietnam again! And extend the Vietnamese UHV so they can use the power of resistance against them.

I feel like one of the "problematic" places that remain is the Balkans and how there're still only the Greeks/Byzantines/Ottomans that are represented there. With the expanded map, there's a lot more space now to fit in at least one more full-fledged civilization, which could easily be either Bulgaria (Representing Southern Slavs) or Hungary (Not exactly the Balkans but still, they kinda already are represented but only as an independent Buda in early Middle Ages that quickly gets conquered)

If adding Hungary, their spawning date could be around 890 AD, being subjected to fall under the pressure from either the Ottomans or the Holy Romans by the Late Middle Ages and Early Renaissance Era. Later on, they could be respawnable since 1848 AD or 1918 AD.

If adding Bulgaria, it could be pretty much similar to how it's now being made in the submod overhaul attempt. Starting in VII Century, then being consumed by the Ottomans in Late Medieval Era, then becoming respawnable since 1878 AD.

There are periods in history where you could argue that the # 1 & 2 most powerful kingdoms in the world were 2 competing Chinese dynasties, and there's probably always a Chinese state in the top 5 right up to the 19th or 20th century. It's worth looking at different ways of modeling that rather than just losing the whole region to independents for centuries imo

Why isn't this a priority to add 😭

Its gotta be Africa! Swahilis and Nubia are a step in the right direction, but I think there is room for improvement! A Shona/Zimbabwe civ to balance the Swahili, Sao/Kanem in central Africa, and Maravi and Kitara in the great lakes region adding these also gives a nice set of rebirth civs to make a much better postcolonial Africa.

Leoreth said he's focusing on the game up until 1500. I'd put money on him having long term plans for late game, but the late game can't be balanced until the early and mid game are.

It's not a balance issue anyway.
