What do you think would be your country's traits if included in CIV?

Brazil militaristic?

Fact: Brazil has more Avon ladies than army.

My proposal: Brazil - Gorgeous and G-Strung

As for my country, Australia - Apathetic and Not NZ

Just a joke Thrawn. ;)

Modern day Finland would probably be industrious & scientific.

In general, thinking of also the "Finland" before the independence in 1917, industrious & commercial might be more fitting.
Finland could be: Industrious & Scientific, Ind. & Com., Ind. & Rel., Ind. & Mil.

Militaristic because Finnish people have always fought well even in 1:10 situations, (WWII's Winter War, "1 suomalainen vastaa 10:tä ryssää;), translation: 1 Finn is equal to 10 Soviets:rolleyes: ) and it has always been like every mans gotta fight if he wants Finland to be free.

Commercial because when Rome was in it's best, they traded furs from area of Finland, and now because Nokia, UPM etc.

Industrious, well do I have to explain, OK, because Finns have always been hard-working people and now because of Nokia, UPM etc.

Scientific, it really doesn't fit to Finland if you think Civs all the time (We were in Stone age when Romans were kings of Europe). But now Finland is one of the most advanced Nations in World. (Again because of Nokia:D )

Religious, it doesn't fit also but Finns have believed in God. And now Finland is even more religious to EU than they are in Belgium and others:lol: (OK it didn't have anything to do with religious but... )

So Expansionistic is the only trait that doesn't fit

I agree with commercial, and scientific is also a good choice. However scientific could also be replaced by expansionistic...

I don´t think so. Our ancestors were trying to make money in Indonesia, they weren´t 'Dutchizing' the place. I am not so sure about policy aims in those days but I think we didn´t want to turn Indonesia into a new province (like the English tried with India (?)). So you could say we were being militaristic (like the Germans in WW2) but we applied a puppetmaster strategy I think, unlike Hitler in France. So no conquest-tactics (Germany-militaristic) and no settling-tactics (America-expansionist) either. I would find it very interesting what you think about this though...

why not have these traits change over time. only one new question should the changing of these traits be preset or based upon your playing style? any comments?

America is defintely Industrious. Probably deserves it more than most other countries.

With Americans working an equivilant of 9 more work weeks than the average European, that's pretty Industrious. Many industries are still based here (globalization hasn't destroyed this country despite popular belief).

"Always" is a very strong word for a country that hasn't existed for 100 years yet. And I don't think that people really cared where they lived before the independence, I think they just wanted to be quit the tax-man, like everyone else. :D Industrious and Scientific would probably fit Finland best.

I'm from Sweden, and it is very hard to say what we should be. The Swedish Vikings where definitely Militaristic and Commercial. During Swedens Golden Age (17th century) we where Militaristic and um Militaristic
Nowadays we're probably Industrious and Scientific.

I basically agree, but during the Swedish gGAh Id rather say Militaristic and Expansionistic (even though the double Militaristic described the situation wellc)

Well, we didn't really settle anything (except Norrland, but that was mostly later), so Expansionistic doesn't really fit. All the people where needed for the military effort. :crazyeye:

BTW, yama75, are you a Swede in Japan? I'm wondering about your .sig.

oldmanrupert - I choose militaristic because we have the best jungle army of world. armys from some countries come to brazil to learn the technics of fighting in jungle, even US come to learn. we use lots of natives weapons, such as zarabatana. and we are 12th most spender in military.
also because i don't feel brazil scientific, or industrious or religious or expansionist! :)

Anti-EUA would that mean that England is miltaristic cos it has teh best trained army in teh world (yes they are better trained than US armies just lesser in number)

In the AREA of Finland:rolleyes: :D

You'd be right Anti, I'm just joking.... though are you sure the US went to Brazil to learn how to fight in the jungle? They clearly can't have gone there prior to Vietnam?

I'd say that right now America is Industrious, Commercial.

I'd say before the west was won it was Industrious, Expansionist.

...so i will post up for my little country: Chile

Traits: Commercial & Industrious.
Unique unit: Húsar de la Muerte, replaced Infantry and has an improved attack (Death Husar, yes we inherited Prusian military tactics)

I've modded my civ to add it.

Keep civilized

David

PS: Note how many commercial treats have we signed in so little time with European Union, India, Korea and i hope shortly with USA.

Modern Sweden: Scientific, Commercial
Misr (modern Egypt, why the hell is Europeans stuck in calling Misr for the name that hasn't been used by the natives for 1000 years?): Religious, Commercial, anti-industrious ('tis true, any Egyptian worth his salt does only half a days work per day. :D )

US would definatly be Militaristic, Commercial... only thing americans care about is replacing regimes and making money...

I disagree. Commercial and Industrious for present, Commercial and Expansionist for past. Keep in mind, America was the first nation to not have a standing army. We had nothing when WWI came around when we had to quickly train millions of men and send them over seas. Religious isn't bad (think of the Puritans) but then again, America has always been a land of religious open-mindedness. But industy has been stong throughout all of the 19th Century as well, since Amercia built the most railroads than any other country during the Transportation Revolution as well as the 2 or so Industrial Revolutions. Expansionist because think of Manifest Destiny and all that, however when we had spread from sea to shining sea, we were content for expansion (excluding Latin America, The Philippines, Guam, Hawaii, Samoa, Puerto Rico, and Cuba). :D
