What does "+2 unholy combat" mean?

So, if I have a unit which has strength 5 and +1 unholy combat, it will actully has strength 6, right?

so for example it will have strength 6 again a dwarven axeman, but 5 against an infernal one (which is of course a demon, and therefore totally resilient to unholy damage), and 6.2 against an angel (weak to unholy damage). Note that undeads are not resistant to unholy.

There are certain "types" of damage against which there can be resistance (or weakness). There are furthemore units with mana "affinity", meaning that for every mana node you hold they get a point (or two as described) more of the associate damage. The types of damage are:

holy
unholy

(these are easy, angels and demons)

fire
lighting
cold

(mostly elementals. Water or ice mana affinity gives cold damage, and air mana affinity gives lighning. Notice that there is no earth damage - earth elementals pack a punch of basic, unreduceable damage)

death

(mostly undead)

poison

(certain recon units)

AFAIK, any other (i.e. ambiguous) mana affinity gives you holy damage (nature, sun...)
