What does a leader's "Favorite Civic" mean?

What are the gameplay implications of using a civic that is your leader's "favorite" ?

Not 100% positive, but I'm guessing if you adopt an opposing civ's favorite civic, you get the +1 diplomacy modifier 'You have chosen your civics wisely'.

Yep, that has just happened to me. I was very surprised to see a positive modifier with a Civ that I have very bad relations with. Perhaps with some missionary work, as well as a few gifts, I can get them to see things my way.

Anyone know if this diplomacy modifier will increase over time??

I think the "you have chosen your civics wisely" diplomatic bonus means you got the same civics as that AI. But I am not sure on that.

As far as I know there is no leaders favourite civic, only starting technologies, traits and Unique Unit are different from leader to leader and civ to civ.

I would think it's the civics the AI is most likely to use when playing them. So it can be sort of a diplomatic guideline in that it's more likely to please them. But also so you know what you might expect from an AI civ.

I believe that to be true as well.

I've always thought that the Favorite Civic mentioned in the manual is just the AI's preference. Or, as a guideline for newbie players as to what civics play to that civs strengths. I never thought it to have actual gameplay implications.

if i recall correctly, that modifier did increase over time. i forgot about the favorite civ feature, but seems worth it to check out. especially when you're shopping around for best friends.

AI leaders do have a "favorite civic." For example, I believe Washington favors Emancipation. Choosing these civics will give you a diplomatic bonus.
