What does "NPC me" mean to you?

It's all situational. The only people who have asked me to NPC them did so because of family emergencies and vacations. If someone just says "Eh, NPC me." Then they won't improve their situation much, but I'm happy to accept a genuine reason from a good player.

Yeah, I would say that it depends.

If someone is usually pretty faithful and only asks for NPC in times of extreme need, I'm willing to NPC them like a regular NPC, but generally without offensive attacks.

Otherwise, then what Kraz said. It should be akin to the leader losing initiative. I'd probably make it difficult although still recoverable though.

If you can't commit, don't.

Don't go saying "I'm in" or "I want to run a NES" and then get other people to commit then later go "sorry, when I thought I could do this I forgot I had a time-consuming life/chronic lethargy."

The problem with this philosophy is that NESes run for longer than 2 months or so. I can tell you I have plans to travel in October. Should that stop me from NESing now (if I had the time)? No. I can't say what I'm doing in december, for the christmas season, because I don't know, but were I to join a successful NES now, there is a good chance it could still be going on then.

If this were a mafia game or diplo or something, with high-speed turns and all that, that would be one thing. However, NESes run for extended periods of time, making the statement a moot point. People travel/have computers break/get incredibly ill/all that which cannot be planned weeks to months in advance.
