What does OT think of CIV VI?

I bought it a couple days ago but one managed one play session yet. Generally I like it but so far I also have little idea what I'm doing so it's hard to judge. I'm just playing it as Civ5 and that's not working. Will play some more today.

I think I'm going to finish the Brazil game I got going on atm and then stop playing until a patch changes the AI's primary mode of expansion from city state conquest to settler production. I like city states, and it's getting really annoying that you have no way to ask the AI to not attack them. I'm practically forced to constantly declare war and liberate cities.

AI as a whole just turns games into a grind. The hidden agendas can override centuries of nothing but good trade deals, delegations, and alliances, even if the attacking AI has no hope of winning a war. And yeah, with the city-states, it just gets to a point where every turn has lots of battles taking place everywhere. Almost every AI in my matches are disliked/dislike every other AI because of the constant alliance breaking, city-state confrontation, and warmongering.

Heard it needs some polish. AI being too aggressive for instance...sounds very familiar.

Most of you would really like it. I think what's really putting people off at this point more than anything is the steep price tag. It's easily the best a Civ game has been on release that I can think of. Definitely better than 5 and 4 at launch.

I've spent a while watching my roommate play it and will buy it myself eventually. It looks good overall and I think it'll turn out to be a really good game after they've added patches and expansions. I'm predicting they'll add a lot of cool stuff with a industrial/modern era expansion and as others have noted, they'll probably have a Poland DLC.

Right now, science seems kind of off relative to production and things take forever to build (at least by my roommate's play). The AI are annoying and spend a lot of time bickering at you over stupid things because of their agendas. An outright bug is that they sometimes have contradictory agendas (i.e., both liking and disliking people with small militaries). I do like the city districts feature and think the government system is a big improvement over the immutable social policies from V.

I think the long build times are a way to force you to specialize your cities. There isn't enough time to build everything.

AI too aggressive? Nobody has declared war on anybody so far in my game.

I have been mucking around with it for two weeks and still have no idea what I'm doing. There are just acres of changes from Civ V. I have no idea, for example how to send an envoy. I may figure it out before I lose interest.

Yeah kinda feels like this is a game after an expansion pack or two. Which is pretty great all in all but it also means there is a lengthy learning curve to it. Reached industrial era in my game as Germany and very little is happening. I don't share borders with anybody so I've only been in one short war. I started a religion but never managed to get any missionaries out as the other civ's religions are dominating all my cities. It's not like in Civ5 where a holy city will convert itself just by it's own religious pressure. I think my starting position was quite bad for a game with a lot of interaction with other civs so I may abandon this game for a new one. I'd like a small/tiny map where I can only have a few cities so I can concentrate on learning how to get the most out of the districts and whatnot. And with just a few opponents to learn the diplo systems.

Just as Civ5 I think the city states mechanic is a bore. But I don't mind that much.

I really miss a overview of ongoing trade and trade possibilities with other civs. But then again perhaps there is one and I just haven't found it yet.

Performance on my minimum requirements PC is OK but not amazing. Large maps is probably out of the question. Not that I mind though.

Still learning it more than enjoying it, so far. But I'll get there.

I finished my first game over the weekend. Still a lot of sanding of rough edges needed. No comprehensive list of trade routes; unit selection will suddently jump to a new unit while I'm mid-move, causing me to move the wrong unit; at least some of the complaints about the AI are legit. But overall I'm enjoying it.

Do I really need i3 processor to play this? And a 250 $ video card?

Auto unit cycling pissed me off so much in Civ 5 and BE that I turned it off in the .ini before I even started my first Civ 6 game .

My thought is that I'm going to need a new computer (the old one was bought with the criteria "must be able to run Civ 5" and so is six years old now and about ready for retirement anyway).

It'll take a while yet before I actually have a new computer so they'll have had time for some of the inevitable balance patches and maybe even a full expansion pack or two before then.

Same here. Honestly, I love the idea of districts, city placement and specialization being more important.. Some ideas like government and great people are done in a fresh way and in my opinion major improvements, but..

The game is just too damn easy and imbalanced. At least in Civ V there was a chance that the Deity AI could win a SV before or around T300. In this one, there isn't. You are playing an opponent that, in most cases, literally cannot win unless you die to an early rush. It's sad and takes away most of the fun.

I played my first game on Immortal and had no problems at all killing two neighbors and blasting off into space. For my second game I chose Deity and wanted to go Domination, but the Pangea was actually split into two continents so I once again killed three civs and colonized mars.

It's fine since I mostly play for finishing times and strategic decision-making anyway, but it would be nice to have the game be a challenge, at least in my first two games.. Right now the biggest threat are barbarian Horsemen

My pre civ5 era computer (min req.) is running it OK. Though I've yet to play a game that went to the late game era. Or a game on a large map for that matter. So to be fair I really don't how how well it will run under more stress. But so far so good.

I'm about halfway through my 2nd game. I moved up to Emperor, and still just roll up the AI like a carpet whenever I feel like declaring war on one of them. I don't even need to be clever about it; melee units backed up by ranged and bombardment units and a hard shove is all it takes. I haven't built either cavalry or anti-cavalry. I built a few recon balloons just 'cause I've always thought zeppelins are kind of neat. Naval units are mostly pointless - I built a few Caravels just to set them to auto-explore.

The game's good, don't get me wrong, but boy does it need a lot of work.

Pros: I like what they've done with districts, city-based happiness and things like tech-boosts.

Cons: the AI is very shoddy - it can't do anything except be a vague annoyance. The UI is non intuitive, with useful information not readily available and certain menus actually blocking each other out.

Overall, it's better than Civ5 was at release... I'll give it 6/10... 9/10 if they can sort out the AI.

Says it requires DX 11 and I know for a fact that my 2010-vintage laptop (which wasn't exactly top of the line when new, either) can't handle that. As I said, though, it's approaching mandatory retirement age anyway. (Fan working less and less well after every time I clear dust from it, have to use an external keyboard because I spilled whisky on it years ago, etc.)
