What does REX mean?

Hello.

Many people talk about REX. What's that (apart from a Latin word meaning "king" and a short term for a dinosaur)?
Note: the acronym list doesn't include it. That's why I'm asking here.

In what context?

It might be 'rax' i.e. short for Barracks.

Rapid Early eXpansion. Creating a flood of settlers by building them as quickly as the cities reach size 3.

Oh, I thought it meant Reconnaisance and Expansion. Usually the landgrab and contact finding part of the game ~ first 100 turns... but Rapid Early Expansion makes sense.
