What ever happened to.......?

Remember it's hard to fight a war in the late modern game because of the threat of Nuclear weapons...

No they're right. There were too many units in the modern age. It was great for the WWII Scenerio, but in the actual game they saw little use. There were Alpine troops in Civ II as well. 5/5 treats all tiles like roads.

However, you didn't have as many units in the non-modern ages as we now have in Civ IV. Axemen, Crossbows, Horse Archers, they really do add a lot more to the game than Paratroopers or Cruise missles ever did.

I disagree. I think the more units the better, variety is what I like in the game.

If the keep pruning away at the number of units, we will get down to a game of Chinese checkers.

I agree with this. One day the most popular mod will be consisting along the lines of 500 units or so. Be it most will be flavour but the more diverse unit lines the better. Are Mod factory will have to churn out a lot more before this is possible. All Firaxis has to do it make the gameboard play smooth so its possible to play huge maps with 4000 units or so and leave the unit creation up to the modders to fill out
