What games deserve a remake?

With story and most gameplayaspects staying the same - what games deserve to be remaked and bought by you?

Planescape: Torment is a given. The story, characters and atmosphere carries this game. With a new engine I'd buy it again.

Battlefield: 1942 was the best of the series. Balanced game with the right pace. Some changes could be made to it, but the classes, maps, weapons and vehicles could all be roughly the same.

Glover. Glover on the Wii would be insane in the membrane.

Final Fantasy 7 without a doubt

Pac-man, Civilization II and Populous

Colonization, Master of Magic, and probably MOO I. The last two have several spiritual descendants, but modern remakes with a bit of rules improvements would be nice.

An X-Com remake from 2k that was done for cutting edge technology would be awesome also.

Probably games of the multi mini-games variety too: Covert Action, the samurai game, etc..

Covert action would be pretty neat as a modern game---FPS stealth, variety of puzzle games, mystery-detective sleuthing (especially if the player really had to apply deductive reasoning and real world techniques), and driving game (cops and robbers and surveillance)---all wrapped into a world scale campaign. Maybe throw in X-Com type base management as well.

I think SM's Pirates! could have one more sequel in it if they add a great deal more eye candy, more mini-games, and some real role-playing.

Escape Velocity!

Alpha Centauri ftw! =O

Madden for sure

Earthworm Jim 1+2, undoubtedly. And not a dinky little GBA port: a full-fledged remake with both included and extra levels to blast around in.

I also say Gunblade. It was an arcade game, but an excellent one.

Monster League Football and Hockey

In other news, we already have a thread on this, although I guess Swein has ruined it.

Do we really have another remake thread or do you mean the sequel thread ?
Anyway, I'd like to see a remake of Final Fantasy 6, but please make it appear more western, I'm sick of this anime look.

Alpha Centauri!

Now that Colonization is in the works perhaps Alpha Centauri 2 isn't so unlikely.

Don't we?! I meant remake, not sequel. I did a search before starting the thread and found nothing...

It seems most of the games that are suggested would make better sequels than remakes. People are too nostalgic about their favorite games... :p

There's a ton of games that I'd like to see again, but I'd hesitate to buy them. They had their time and would probably not be as good now. Diablo3 will hopefully hold up since they make sufficient changes to it, but would a remake of myth2 (I know there's a third one), Outlaws or Day of The Tentacle be as good today without major changes?

Perhaps. My main concern with remakes isn't whether or not they'd still be enjoyable, or not as good as I remember, but whether they could be improved enough to make a remake worthwhile. Cosmetic touches like improved graphics or sound might be nice, but probably wouldn't be enough to make me want to buy and replay a game I've already had for years. The main benefit would be to introduce the game to a newer generation of players, but even that purpose is rendered somewhat redundant in light of services like the Wii virtual console. That leaves fixing things that shouldn't have been in the games in the first place, like Earthworm Jim's lousy controls.

Even cosmetic updates aren't necessarily desirable. The simple graphics and sound of old games have a charm to them, and though I wouldn't really want to see blocky graphics on the current-gen consoles, that doesn't mean they have to be removed from classic games.

All the old LucasArts SCUMM games (or put them on the ds).
