when i went to sleep i had +4 happiness. when i loaded up today it had dropped to -17. at this point in the game its pretty much impossible to raise it much further. wtf?

Can be so many things,
Probably a program memory failure.
In a game where I nuked one of the AIs, I suddenly was at war with another AI, because they shared some second ring hexes.
(With a min_city_distance of 4 this wouldn't happen, another game design failure).
After auto-reloading the same turn, the nuke was already launched and I didn't get a DoW from the other AI.

I noticed once I had no trade routes on the turn my game loaded, although the roads were there. They all magically reactivated next turn. Relying on Meritocracy, this was a huge happiness hit.

Note that this bug occurred before the most recent patch.

Can be so many things, trades expire, freedom specialists, resources pillaged, etc etc.

no it was literally no game time. my happiness was just set to -17 from 4. its in the same turn. there is no way it could have dropped that far. some kind of bug or something. has anyone else had this problem?

i have every resource except one and most of my cities have theatres.

oh well.

Did you just get the upgrade to the new patch, I rember something similar happening to me in the March patch.

Definitely. If you were recently at war, check all your luxury resource improvements to make sure they weren't pillaged "a little".

Is this a game played on an older version? I seem to remember that there used to be some bug involving happiness when saving/reloading when you had cities which were in the process of being razed, but I think that whole mechanic was changed in a past patch, making the bug no longer possible/relevant.
