What if Bush wins by a huge majority?

What if Clinton changed his name... could he run again? :p
To Hillary? I'd vote. :)

If Bush wins with a majority of the popular vote, I'd be very surprised. Since I've only ever met one Bush supporter in real life, I would again wonder where these people come from who supposedly like the guy. But I wouldn't blame a fixed vote. I didn't in 2000, I just blamed a rigged court.

And then I'd leave the country.

What if Bush wins with a majority, period? Knowing the 48-48 split that would happen...wouldn't a 50.5% showing be strong?

it would show the country realized how crappy kerry really is.

sanaz, how many people have you met who actually Like kerry? it can't be much more.

yes a 50.5 showing would be strong. a majority! :)

The only way Bush would win by a landslide is if their is another terrorist attack on US soil.

If he wins by a landslide, then I would say the votes are legitimate. I would also rethink if the news I get are neutral enough (because from what I see, Bush has no chance of winning). I don't think he will win by a landslide though, and close races are the ones that can be rigged.

Mission Accomplished in Iraq.
There is no gurellia war
No more additional troops are needed
The more terrorist attacks means that the US is winning
The UN is irrelevant
The world is a safer place since the liberation of Iraq
The massive deficlet is good fiscal managment

I think Theo Tran took the words right out of my mouth

It would mean the American people want more of the same...but I don't see how that could be possible. Is this really how they want things to be done?

How would you react if Bush got, say, 57% of the popular vote and had a large margin in the electoral?

Would you say it was fixed or that he really deserves to win?

Have you seen his current ratings?

The guy is slipping into the void...

Are you joking?

The terrorists have 18,000 active terrorists in 60 nations.
We are not winning, and we are wasting time in Iraq, which is crumbling also.
The Allies are trying to get out of Iraq, while our enemies have been give precious months to regroup and re-arm.

Considering we have only killed 2000 terrorists and they have 18,000 -
I would say your victory declaration is a bit premature.

Go golly, are you reading the same media as the rest of the world? :crazyeye:

For Bush to win that type of majority he would need people who voted Al Gore or Nader last time to swing to him. Al Gore (like Kerry) had deficincies as a candidate but he still (at least) tied Bush.

So what has Bush done to win over Al Gore voters?

The policies that Bush has pursued in office (the tax cut, faith based programs etc) are not policies that appeal to people who voted Al Gore in 2000.

In terms of where America is now as a result of Bush policies, domestically there has been a huge increase in jobless compared with 2000, and internationally America is bogged down in Iraq. If anything I think these policy outcomes are more likely to cause a swing away from Bush than towards Bush.

There are not reasons to think that demography is working in Bush's advantage either. There has been net immigration into the US during Bush's term, but evidence suggests that first generation immigrants are more likely to vote Democrat.

If there had been a big swing to the conservative side in attitudes in the so-called 'culture wars' then that would help Bush but I get no sense that that has happened either.

Is there anyone who voted for Gore or Nader in 2000 who is going to vote for Bush in 2004? Please can you post your reasons.

So I'd say the scenario of a big Bush majority is unlikely, but not impossible, everybody got the result of the Spanish election wrong didn't they?

It isn't going to happen. If he wins it will be by a whisker. If he loses it will be by a similar margin. The country is too divided for it to be otherwise. I suspect there will be a minimum of shenanagins as well - on either side. The price of getting caught is too high and the media would inevitably catch either side if they tried.

If Bush wins then I'm moving to Canada! I don't think I could stand another four years of that ass-hat.

If Bush wins by majority? Interesting aspect, it would probably mean he won at least one election by the rules.

Like when the Conservatives won in the UK for the third time, sometimes people look at two bad choices and go for what is familiar.

It is unfortunate that such a large proportion of the US electorate doesn't bother to vote, the rate is far lower than in other mature democracies (why is that, can any US correspondents enlighten me?) I suspect that few Republicans would win the ballot if there was a significantly higher turnout, but that GWB may just sneak in this time due to a poor opposition candidate and the impact of a suitably timed attack from Al Qeada
