What is Muhammad's Image doing in game files?

I'm actually a bit skeptical about this. I would think that the majority are religious, if we define "religious" as believing in a higher being. I suspect, in this case, that a reasonable number of the population are deists that would believe in some higher being, but not accept organised religion.

Surveys can be treacherous things, it depends on how it was worded. I speak as an agnostic, or agnostic atheist, as I prefer to describe myself.

I will be happy to be proven wrong, however (really!).

Tell me about it - truth lies and statistics. I never listen to them myself but if other people insist on it I can shovel it to them. Though I can't actualy find a site in this case! I heard it in one of my A level lectures and was shown the actual statistics. Like I said in my post though I'm unsure of the actual number I just remember it being significant. However this link shows that in the Czech Republic 59% of people say they are atheist (about half way down).

I've just found a good site (I know this is off-topic BTW) which shows the atheism statistics and it shows quite surprising things like Vietnam has 81% atheists and also possibly shows the statistic the I was referring too - 44% (told you I was unsure of the stats) either way it'd be the biggest 'faith' in the country just not a majority in itself (even if you take the low end of 31% I think it'd still make it).

I doubt the company meant to be offensive. Do remember that they took great pains to not offend anyone with the new religion features- making them all equil and such. I seriously doubt they would hide a picture of Mohammed on the game CD just to offend muslims.

Also I suggest looking through the credits, and you'll find a dozen or so muslim sounding names, including that of the lead programmer. Why would they insult their own people?

keep in mind that muhammed was a pedophile, a slave trader and one of the most feared tribal warlords of his time
he killed a LOT of people
and was delusional

I looked this up, and was shocked to find it was true. Not sure what to make of this really...

Wow this thread grew FIVE TIMES as fast as the "Class Action Suit" one  :crazyeye:

how do you know this looks like him/is supposedyl a portrait of him
id like you to answer that lol :)

That thought crossed my mind before

Wouldn't renaming the image solve the problem? (it wouldn't be Muhammad than)

Sometimes when it is cold outside, I wear a jacket. If it is even colder, I then wear a hat and gloves.

This thread really isn't about religion. Rather, it is yet another sad example of how the adherents of ONE SPECIFIC RELIGION (Islam) feel completely justified in demanding all non-Muslims respect all of their beliefs with absolutly NO understanding from the, to other faiths...and how PC behavior in the non-Muslim West has cowed some non-Muslims into dhimmitude on the matter.

It's sort of like how there are no real pictures of Jesus, just artists who for the most part have agreed on what most people think he would look like. Whether he looked at all like that is open to debate.

I'm a deist. That means I believe in the existence of a 'supreme architect of the universe' that 'set everything in motion'. Doesn't come into conflict with the whole theory of evolution, either. I think creationism (of any sort) is as unscientific and ignorant as anyone could possibly get. I don't believe in personal gods that care about mankind's little plight, much less in sanctimonious prophets that herald the supremacy of their gods.

Therefore, I find the idea that we should entertain the superstitions and delusions of anybody patently ridiculous. While we shouldn't go out of our way to offend anyone, I don't believe that anyone has any right to assert their 'way of life' unto us.

Much like I'd tell someone who disapproved of my eating of pork, or beef to get lost, I'll tell a person who disapproves of the portrayal of individuals the very same thing. It's my right to do so, just as it is his right to tell me of his disapproval. I applaud him for his ability to exercise his right to free speech, but he should be just as tolerant of me as I am of him, regardless of our differences in opinion.

By the way, Jesus was probably dark skinned. European artists in the middle ages portrayed a fair skinned Jesus for their own reasons, not the least of which was to assert European dominance over Christianity.

this thread has convinced me to remove the last obstacle in my life that is standing between myself and inner peace.. this board :p

He probably doesn't look like how he is portrayed.

EVERYONE! YOU ARE ARGUING ABOUT A PICTURE THAT IS THE SIZE OF A SMILEY AND IS MORE HIDDEN THEN THE HOT COFEE MOD!

Sigh...

Mods, this thread has derailed from why something has been left in a game (Who cares? It is so small and doesn't affect the game, and I highly dobut it would affect Muslims) to if Muslims are morally right.

This is a respect thing. Firaxis did such a great job of allowing seven different faiths (and agnosticism, and atheism) to all be equally right. If you don't think that's a good thing, then you obviously don't value basic human respect.

As for those who use this thread to lash out against the Muslim world, they fail to understand history OR current events. Not only can you not generalize -- there's a lot of Muslims, Christians, and Atheists who are all 100% grade A ***holes and use their religious views to justify it. (Osama Bin Laden, Hitler, and Stalin -- to name a few.) ... but your generalizations about Muslims couldn't be further from the truth. Your attacks on all Muslims reveal more about your character than it does of theirs. A lot of ignorant people on these forums, unfortunately.

I think Firaxis's overall treatment of religion is worth of respect. And for that, I hope people will give them a pass for this slip.

This is what we're arguing over
I'll admit, when I saw that this was the offending image I laughed a bit at the absurdity. However, the fact that the vast majority don't care, and see this whole thing as absurd counts for little. With vast apathy on the subject, and a theoretical small but fervent objection, it's clear that the thing should be done away with as there's no reason to keep it.

Put simply- if you think it's trivial, good for you. You shouldn't mind it being removed.

How is it actually possible to remove it, unless they recall all the games that have already shipped?

That's a dangerous precedent to help set.

My imaginary friend can beat up your imaginary friend - the essence of religious thought, and sadly terrorism...
