I was going to start a new game and notice new maps sizes after gigantic. I like playing large maps but when tried a gigantic size, the entire mape was all land even though I selected continents. My question is this; what do the large sizes do if gigantic is all land?

Are you using Viewports? Because Continents should not be having all land.

If the map becomes all land that means there is an error somewhere in the map script. It may mean that the map script has not been adjusted for bigger sizes for example.

Yes, I was using viewports. It's why I was trying a larger map size. I figured less impact with viewports so I could try the larger maps. I had been exploring for a while and hadn't found the coast yet so I disabled viewports and opened world builder and it was all land.

As DH said, this is 99.99999% due to a mapscript not being able to deal with the larger sizes. Try a different map, or don't use the larger sizes until an updated mapscript python is released.

Viewports will not IN ANY WAY impact map generation, since they are invisible to the python hat generates the map.

Yeah, I didn't mean it was viewports causing the problem but agreeing with DH that the mapscript (which is generated using python) was the problem. I doubt any but the one tested (ie PW3) will be 100% compatible with the larger sizes, and I know that none of those were changed recently.

Just to be clear, I was saying viewports are irrelevant to why maps may not generate "continents" on the new sizes.

I got an OK gigantic map using C2C-Continents. Although it did not look much bigger. ;)

@SteelSterling were you using the C2C continents map script?

Edit I was able to create valid maps using C2C-Continents for all the new map sizes.

I know, but if one was not too familiar with viewports I figured they could think that the map displayed in the viewport was the whole map. As DH said he was able to get a good map from C2C continents. I'll test that with Immense, but I suspect it will work.

I was using C2C Custom Continents. I'm going to try C2C Continents or perhaps PW3.

If you have Viewpoints on and go in the WB, ALL you see is just your Viewpoint! There is a good chance that this will be all land, even if the Map has lots of water.
So maybe you should deactivate it, reload your game and go in the WB again.
Maybe you should change this. I was aslo irritated when I first found tried to edit a GEM with Viepoints on^^

1. That is what I suspected he might have done.

2. Changing it is impossible given the engine limitations.
