What is the fastest Space Race victory you've ever had?

It think CivNoobie is great !!! Trying to get better I wish I would try to get above chieftain level sometime !! ^^ (preferable:soon) Does not mean CivNoobie is bad ! He is so much better than me. We are all Newbies CivNoobie, we are just experienced CivNoobies ;)

I almost always win via space race.

Won on conquest 2 times. I just started invading weaker Civs and I got the message, I wasn't deliberately aiming for conquest. Never won my culture.

I play on monarch, huge maps...

Not positive, but probably something in early 20th century

I know this thread is old, but I've been looking for the same answer as the OP in order to try to improve my own "record" of 1606 AD. I didn't expect to be the fastest of those who answered though, since I hoped to beat my record once again (the 1606 AD game improved my previous attempt that got me to Alpha Centauri around 1700 AD).

If it matters, I played as Qin Shi Huang of the Chinese (Noble/Marathon) in BTS 3.19 with K-Mod 1.44b (a mod that improves the AI, among other things) on a slightly customized (start position) 'Gigantic Accurate Earth Map (232x112) for Civilization IV' version 1.0 created by Laskaris. I also played with a few self-imposed limitations:
- no slavery/whip for my free citizens, no pacifism either (I see them as game exploits for the human player, just as higher difficulties are bonus driven exploits for the AI)
- no offensive war, except 2-3 small bursts of blitzkrieg to secure 1-2 previously voluntary vassals for Mining Inc. in the late game by capitulation
- all cities conquered in the above blitzkrieg bursts were 'liberated' to the original civilization once the vassal was secured after a couple of turns
- all the traded techs and corporation resources were always secured through fair negotiation and not by intimidation or threats
- no techs were acquired by forcefully instruct vassals to research them

I did, however, have a great start (Gold, Silver and plenty of food in my capital BFC) - as I should have had as the Chinese - and obviously a good knowledge of the map, bar where the resources were located (since it was the actual Earth's map and geography is one of my hobbies).

Since someone else has already resuscitated an old topic, I guess it's OK to chime in.

People have found some really interesting ways to cheese out some really early space race victories in the last several years since this thread was started. You can do pre-1000 AD with a duel size pangea on Settler, no city-razing enabled, with about 9-12 AI opponents with the Incas. Take out everyone early with a quechua rush, then you have about 10 capital city locations and that financial trait to keep things going. Make sure to disable conquest, domination, and cultural victories.

I've heard others claim that similar settings with the Mayas on a rainforest map can do even better, but I haven't been able to replicate such results myself.

Warning: Games like this get really boring to finish, with a lot of "end turn" clicking.

I have the save, just not on hand. But I once got a 1360AD space win on noble, normal size, standard speed. The trick was to:

1. Savescum ruins until you got like 10 free techs by t50, and

2. Play on a very specific map and reroll until it meets specific conditions. You see, one of the map scripts available (not legal under HoF rules for reasons apparent soon) is "fantasy_realm". If you select the resource distribution as "crazy", it removes 7 resources from the game but then also makes 2 random resources as common as dirt, and can also put resources where they're not supposed to go (read: flood plains for superpowered tiles from the start). Reroll until ONE of the super common resources is a strong food resource (wheat, corn, or pigs are honestly the only viable ones), the SECOND is a super strong commerce resource (gold or gems, though without spawn restrictions the latter is basically a straight downgrade), NONE of the removed resources are necessary for SS parts (aluminum and copper are basically it), and you get a sweet FP-river start. I think you know where I'm going with this...if you get the right map you can have 6-7 :food: tiles and 6-7 :commerce: tiles just laying around everywhere on the map, able to be improved as soon as they're claimed. Such a ridiculous amount of food and production will easily catapult you into space-win dates that are normally only achievable on marathon speed with HC or Darius. In my save by the end of the game I think I had 40 gold resources and 40 wheat improved...absolutely ludicrous.
