What is the stereotype for the state/province/region you live in?

I'm originally from New Jersey and most people think it's just a suburb of New York City.

I live in Alabama now and their sterotype of 'Yankees' is like this:

- Yankees talk too fast
- Yankees move too fast
- Yankees think Southerners talk funny

All I've noticed is that:

- Sadly, racism is alive and well in the South
- If you're not from the local county, it takes at least 20 years to be accepted
- There is a chuch on nearly every corner
- I feel like I'm 30 years back in time

Ontario: boring, in-bed-at-9pm types.

Hell, we're proud of "Toronto the Good" and "The City that Fun Forgot" (Ottawa), but we could do without Sudbury...

You should be happy that most of Maryland doesn't know where you are. They found out about western Maryland, and now they're invading in large numbers, turning it into another suburban wasteland.

I take it when you say southern Maryland, you mean places around the southeast, and not places like Rockville and Bethesda right?

People say that Virginia is (even though I live in the North) a bunch of hicks and confederate racists.
And I think he mean Southern Maryland like St. Marys, Calvert and Prince George's counties.

I suppose I'd really appreciate other folks telling me what they think of when they hear "Missouri".

In all honestly, you've become my stereotype for Missouri

Spoiler :
that's a good thing for your state

oh no, by southern maryland i mean that St Mary's City is about 15 minutes down the road (St Mary's, Calvert, and Charles county are "Southern Maryland). We're the original MArylanders :P. Also, when the Britsh landed in 1812, they landed at Benedict, in Charles county, and marched up through PG to get to Washington. There was a Civil War prison at Point Lookout, you can still visit it. LEts see, what else happened here? Tom Clancy lives over in Calvert ( Prince Frederick IIRC), John Wilkes Booth, after assasinating Lincoln, ran across Charles county, and had his broken leg fixed by a Dr. Mudd in Charles Co. , any of you are into Motocross: Bud's Creek International Raceway is in St Mary's county, and NAS Patuxent River is where President Clinton declared the Bald Eagle no longer an endangered species, and where astronoaut Alan Shepard (the first American in space) practiced

a little history of Southern MD :)

Ahh, thanks for the info. My adventures into the fine state of Maryland were limited to the DC burbs, Silver Spring, Weaton, Rockville, etc. It was funny, since I lived maybe 2 miles from the DC/Maryland border, that I would go running, and if I wasnt paying attentioin, I'd find myself in a different state :)

I am from New York...state. I live up near lake Ontario yet when I mention I am from NY everyone wants to know if I know so and so in the Bronx. I don't sound like a person from NYC...I don't like NYC. I don't know anyone in NYC. I know alot of people FROM NYC - living up here to get away from NYC.

Since Missouri was mentioned, I thought I'd say I have this picture of it as a hellhole filled with fanatics, teenage mothers, and homeless bums. Like Alabama, but without the banjos and the incest.

I don't know of any stereotypes for the city where I live. The people in the surrounding countryside are considered to be insular hicks with speech impediments. They pronounce 'r' as 'w', which sounds very silly to other Swedes.

Where I live (South West of France)
- We eat well (foie gras, magrets, cassoulet at every meal)
- We drink good win
- We live older
- We are not fat
- We enjoy good weather
- We play rugby

Where I was born (Savoy)
- We all ski all day
- We eat cheese all the time (specialty = dipping cheese in melted cheese).

When people think about New York they instantly think about the City. Theres a whole state above the City limits! And we're not all hick farmers either!

Muggers, paedophiles, corrupt local officials.

I'm glad I wasn't born here... just being educated here. Nottingham, UK.

I'm from Southern Maryland, and we're pretty much a bunch of rednecks who grow tobacco and listen to country music as we roll around in big red pickups, at least thats what another Marylander will tell you, assuming he knows where southern maryland IS ( many dont, and i can say im ashamed for them). Oh, and we fish a lot (that ones true) and make absolutely THE BEST crabcakes youve ever had, thanks to the Chesapeake Bay Blue Crab! ( that one;s true too, you havent eaten crab until you've been to Captain Billy's Crabhouse or Clarke's Landing)

I guess you mean like Calvert County? Haha my uncle just moved to Calvert, but my stereotype for southern Maryland is they're all inbred hicks, completely different from Rednecks over here. I should probably go to Captain Billy's or Clarke's Landing, cause I love crabcakes and seafood so much. What highschool do you go to?
