Recently i started making a Skaven city series, and so i became more interested in Warhammer, however i do not know almost anything about it. I suspect that it is a series of toys with a common mythos behind them. but instead of searching the web alone i thought that it might be better to ask here, since some of the OT crowd will probably be familiar with it :)

here are my civ3 Skaven btw ;)

There is more to warhammer then just painting minis. I dont play the game but I do have some minins painted up and I'm working on some terrain.

As for GW it is an evil company that will stop at nothing to sell you stuff. Don't be supprised if the only infomation you get at the store is on how to buy the books. There is a back story but its not very deep. It mostly contains why one race is at war with another for the sake of game play. Each race has a fairly distinked method of construction in its buildings.

If I knew exactly what you looking for I may be able to get better infomation.

I used to play Warhammer but it costs alot and I got more into Music so all my money was going on CD's instead.

I actually find the whole 'story' aspect quite intresting and there are some very good books 'based' in the Warhammer/40K world's.

You might check out the wikipedia entry, it's quite big.

I've recently gotten into Mordheim, a skirmish game for warhammer in which you lead a warband in a ruined city. And you only have to paint (and buy;)) about 10 minis, compared to 100 for WHFB.

And Davo is right about the books. :)

I find the models you can buy for Warhammer (ridiculus cost for what they are)

are very fun to make up mutants (using parts from different creatures) and then use them in D&D and other games like Mrtn said

Meh, Battletech is infinetly better than Warhammer.

I prefer Risk. :)

I played Mordheim for a while, but I grew tired of how all skirmishes, regardless of the theoretical objectives, tended to degenerate into a massive melee in the middle of the board.

I'd probably still played WHFB had not my gaming group splittered up and moved all over the country.

i stopped playing like 7-8 years ago, then the 3rd wh40000 came out and the game was effectively ruined.
maybe not so bad, consifering all the time i spent painting and all the money i blew on the miniatures.

damn they are frikking expensive. if someone demands that price for a piece of lead from me, ill prolly punch the bastard on the nose.

buy a car or an army of little leaf soldiers... hmmmm

when i played alot, about 10 years ago, i had a 300 piece space ork army for WH40000, sometimes i regret having sold it, because of all the hours i spent painting them.

PS. i still have a 6000 point all khorn army for warhammer fantasy, if anyone is intrested in buying. its over 100 pieces, all metal. :yeah:

I like the pretty pictures as I am too lazy to paint, I am too shy to go to the local hobby store to game, I have no friends nearby to game with (yet) and i don't know the rules.
Also I havn't even read my last 3 white dwarfs, and i am not re-subscribing.

What is warhammer? Bloody expensive. The prices has gotten so bad that I've all but quit the hobby after 12 years and now have a complete and painted Empire army gathering dust... plus all the other bits and pieces that never ended up as a complete army :(

People have pretty much described what Warhammer is, but I thought I should tell you, the Skaven are rat-men thingies and live underground in burrows, dens and underground complexes (or even sewers), discretely, rather than on ground.

And they have a more "evil" look, and would be mostly dull tones of brown/black or crimson.

How much would a small set (eg 10 miniatures) cost?
As for the Skaven: well the set is complete (link in my sig) and i guess it isnt entirely Skaven-like, but its a start ;)
