Continents and Island ... in 90% time. Because it gives equal opportunity for land and naval civs. And there is some island for colonies to be established. I would only love if at lease one of those island would be little larger, I know there is Terra map --- but that to much - because I know there is big land mass somewhere, but AI of course does not.
7 seas offers great variety and fun. probably my fav map type, though I crazylike coninents&island and lakes mapscript and if I don't go specific VC, any fractals are fine
But it also depends on preffered victory:
domination: Terra
science: pangea / 7seas
diplo: definitely lakes/inland sea in favor of lakes
I hate terra, primordial, any medium and small islands types
On a Continents map, you'll usually only end up with one neighbor, so diplomacy tends to be a bit boring. On a Pangea map, naval trade bonuses and naval exploration become irrelevant. Seven Seas offers a good balance.
I selected inland sea and played as Norway. I decided to stay at perma-war as long as possible. So, when I met Germany and Korea, it was on. Germany foolishly built a coastal government plaza. I must have raided it 20 times. Not to mention the harbours that I burnt down over and over. Lol.
With the Raid card, I was getting hundreds of gold/culture/science per raid.
Total naval domination for the entire game. I had fully promoted privateers. Finally made peace around 1900.
I honestly just love how Splintered Fractal makes tons of narrow passageways on land and in water. The map always turns out to be super interesting.
If not that, I try to pick a map that just makes it easier for that Civ to win on, lol. If I'm going for religion, I want as little water as possible, etc.
YnAEMP with TSL for me. I love TSL and Earth Maps. Never really thought of playing it without TSL, but it seems some people do it. So maybe I will try it at some point.

Island Plates for me. Always yields interesting maps.
The one time I tried Seven Seas I end up on a ringworld where the seas were confined to the poles. Not trying that one again.
