Believing that winning a game sooner does not garner appreciably higher score, I try to delay my victory as long as possible. With large continent/epic/prince games, I've (almost) never won domination but win sci or cul with a few diplos.
Of course, with an occasional runaway civ on another continent, sometimes I just Don't.
My main problem with domination is I am very good at procrastinating war declarations. I'm in my 2nd VEM game (I used to play Mentos' Unity mod), and it may be my 2nd VEM loss. I am INTIMIDATED by the huge financial reserves of half the remaining civs (good thing they seem to just enjoy hoarding it instead of unit upgrades, assuring a diplo vic, etc).

ADDENDUM: Upon review of my HOF, throughout my civ5 history my record is: Science 10;
Cultural, Diplomatic & Domination 7 each; Time 3.
Defeats are 2 diplo, 2 science & 1 time. Almost all games were Large continents/Epic/Prince.
I had voted science & diplo.
Rambling time:
My 1st VEM game was one of the diplo or science defeats. My 2nd was a diplo victory brought about by too many friendly CSs with Great Engineer quests achieved on the turn a UN Vote was due (which I had previously avoided). Was 3 turns from completing my last spaceship part; the Poly's hadn't installed 2 parts despite their being 6 techs ahead.
