What sources of information do you trust and believe? When someone gives an opinion and you want facts or sources to back it up, which will you accept? What sources do you use to keep yourself updated on events?

I trust most major newspapers, except the Washington Times. As for TV, I trust the Daily Show.

Major newspapers, especially "Der Spiegel" since it proved competence several times. I trust TV news of major stations most of the times. I also trust friends who live in different countries when I want to get a feeling about the current trends in their country.

None! I want to hear news from the horses mouth.

If someone says something in a statement on news, or in an interview then that's cool... but journalists twist things to get a better story.

:goodjob:
I never put faith in sources all based in the same country, that's just asking to brain washed :(

I don't trust the media.

I'm with Zarn (yet again, he's smart for a Roman Republican). What's this 'trust' that everyone keeps talking about? :hmm:

So, where do you get your information from? Everyone must believe some of it.

I cannot vote on this poll, since it seems impossible to trust news sources. Generally I read an article, deduct about half of it as ideological opinion, another quarter as propaganda, and some of the things left might be true.

Good newspapers are "Le Monde", "Die Presse", "Der Standard" and the NY Times/Washington Post. If something important comes up, I usually read a combination of those.

If you know in which direction a source tends it is easier to guess which parts of the news are exaggerated. Just read US papers on the war on terror.

I look at the more conservative sources and the more liberal ones and compare to get a more accurate answer.

Okay. Why didn't you say that in the first place? :)

I'm starting to see an influx of "I don't trust any media." I don't believe that. While everyone is skeptical to a certain degree, if you didn't believe any sources you would basically be saying you didn't believe anything that was going on because you didn't see it firsthand. For example, you would say things like, "IF Saddam Hussein was in power and IF he had these weapons and IF the United States (if they exist) would probably blah blah blah.... Unless, you flew around the world collecting your own information to form opinions.

I'm just trying to find out where everyone derives their opinions of current events from.

I trust the St. Paul Pioneer Press, the Washington Times, Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, and some Internet news sites.

'Trust' is pointless, its analysis that provides insight. Any source of news can be usefull if you know what context to place it in.

As a matter of pragmatism, I go with the major networks & outlets. I figure if that is where the decision makers and leaders of the day get their news, they are making news based on that information, therefore, it doesn't matter if its true or not because that is the direction the world is moving in, if I believe it or not.

Im with Greadius,
I'll look at the major news networks and try to look past the bs.
