I voted Cultural.. but in fact that is the ONLY way I have ever really won since I started playing Noble (I hate space race and UN, so always turn it off).

I suck badly at war, unless I make it far enough along to get a commanding tech lead and can smash them with superior firepower. I came very close to Domination once - another 3-4 turns probably would have done it.

Yes I only like it as a wargame, so far...

I am a noob on the civ series so I have yet to find flavor in winning by diplomatic/peaceful meanings

War in some cases is the easiest of all to win, if you get an early start. If you wait til Riflement+ it gets a lot harder.

Cultural and Domination are probably the two hardest to actually win at, as you often have to stay alive til almost the end time. Space can be easiest unless you have some aggressive civs nearby. I usually turn off space and UN though.

The Domination Victory: This is awarded when you have a 25% lead in population over their best competitor, and 65% of the global land mass

I think the domination limit might be different depending on maps or number of civs. My domination required 72.xx% That was standard size continent map with however many rivals is default for that.

I found a smallish continent and 4 islands uninhabited and habitated them after taking over my own continent :D

I've been playing on Noble... bascally lost a couple of times first to space race testing out different Civs but now I'm a lock for Space Race if I want it but recently won Culturally with about 98 turns left(most fun I had). It wasn't easy though, I actually got luck with 2 free settlers from goody huts early so I never had to go to war to expand. I was in the tech lead from there on out and got all 7 religions. With my 15 cities I was collecting 200gpt at max research which I switched over to max culture towards the end of the game. Really hard to get 3 cities with 50,000 culture. I ended up with like 5 in the 10-20,000 range and the rest well on their way to 10,000. It was nice to win without building the damn Spaceship

I've only played two full games at this point both on the Noble difficulty. The first I won by Space Ship and the second I won by Diplomatic means. I have noticed a few things about the game though that I'm not sure wether or not I like yet.

Firstly, early wars seem to be almost impossible. Even if you wait until you get Swordsmen it is still very difficult to do because of the tech pace. The units become obsolete very soon it seems to me. I haven't been able to conquer my own continent yet, which I did regularly by the time I had Knights in CivIII.

Secondly, religion makes diplomacy very easy in this game I find. Found a religion early, and spread it throughout the continent. That's basically how I won my second game diplomatically. Not to mention the extra cash you get if you build a shrine and the spy potential of having all your enemies cities under your religion.

Thirdly, the interface seems unfinished to me. I know it is supposed to be easy to navigate and user friendly to the newer people to civ, but I have had a hard time with it and still am. I just get the feeling that it was unfinished. I prefer the old CivIII interface much more, but that will probably change as I play more CivIV :)

Don't get me wrong I love playing so far, but I don't know. The game seems to just move way to fast for me. I guess I'll try ramping up the difficulty and playing a Large instead of Standard map. Maybe that will help with the tech pacing.
Try the epic setting... that will surely slow down the pace, way down... and more civs results in more fighting and more hatred to spread around...

I put "Death To All Radioactive Monkeys" because I thought it sounded funny, but I haven't won yet. Because I can't play a game to completion due to inexplicable crashes to BSOD.

Later!

Conquest only here. I fear putting Space victory, because i will win the game too quickly. The other ones are pretty simple. Dont nuke and you could get UN. Domination = simplified conquest. Culture is a tricky one, but if anybody tries to get i , i would burn his Cities. Thus at the end they are all equal to conquest. I think they should add a button in foreing advisor so you can make all the ennemies allie against you would eb much fun. (They will not win anyway MUHAHAHAHAA).

I have found it is nigh impossible to win a diplomatic victory. I'm not happy about it either, since I usually just want to get the game over with asap once it becomes clear I am the dominate player. My last game,(monarch) i Had pleased relations with 3 of the top 4 players besides myself, and still had to resort to building the darn spaceship. It is really annoying, because now I have to play for another hour or so to finish the game off.
