Dogs. Cats here are uncivilized. :ack: Dogs stay in their yards, (or at least away from my yard) whilst the ferral cats rome around, mate, make unseemly noises, fight each other, leave messes on the sidewalk, scratch up the deck post, scratch the garage door from climbing on it, don't seem to understand that when I hit them with waterballoons or shoot them with water pistols that they are NOT welcome (I swear to you, I'm THISCLOSE to starting to use a BB gun.....), have kittens on our property, sleep on things we don't want them to sleep on, eat birds we would rather stay alive, and make holes in walls which do not need holes.

For my money, dogs rule. :goodjob: Cats can go crawling back to the furry caldren of filth from whence they were conceived. :p :mischief:

My dog Cookie.

So called not because she's biscuit coloured but because as a puppy she left little packages behind that need cleaning up frequently.

@Becka: I see nothing uncivilized about drooling all over things, chewing up shoes etc., digging up the yard, barking all night, chasing balls around the yard till you drop... The list goes on. Dogs have masters, cats have slaves - Now decide which is more civilized ;)

Btw, I like cats :D

I don't know what kind of weird dogs you've seen, but my dog's never chewed up a shoe, barked all night or chased a ball (he's smart- once he has it, he doesn't give it back). He sleeps. He plays with you if he feels like it, then stops when he's tired. When he's thrirsty and out of water, he'll bring his water dish in and set it someplace you will see it (like the middle of the hall) and wait for you to do something about it. If there's a strange noise at the door, I can send him ahead to check it out, and if he hears something out of place (like an intruder) he'll bark.

If you can find a cat that does all of that, call me. :p

Monkeys. Although they can be very naughty at times. I don't know how many times I have spanked my monkey. It seems like all I ever do is spank my monkey. But it pays of in the end. There is nothing better than a monkey except maybe a radioactive giant monkey or possibly a small dog.

I think you'd get more out of a dog as a pet while cats are like ornaments that do a bit more than just sit there (occasionally). I'd have either, though.

Flanders: Well, ok. Homer Simpson released a radioactive ape in my house. It's taken over the entire top floor!

Bart: It wasn't his fault, the ape tricked Dad!

Have had one or two dogs all my life, I like them - although I think it is too difficult and hard to raise and take care of them. So I wouldn't have one myself.

Cat!

I'm afraid of dogs and snakes aren't very softy, are they?

Well mabey I will sound like the odd-ball here with that answer (well mabey not as odd as that guy who likes turtles ;)) but I perfer Fish.
Fish rule, Espesicly my fish, I have this Black Tiger Oscar and its about 6-7 inches long. I named it Oscar and he/she is my prize fish,Oscar will eat tropical fish flakes, bloodworms, other small fish, and live Insects when I catch them and put them in the tank. If I hold a fish flake over the tank Oscar will jump up and eat it out of my hand. Oscar has great aim too I haven't been bitten by em in a long time :goodjob: though it dosen't hurt when Oscar bites ya. :p It feels like a small old toothless grampa snaping at you.
as far as fish go Oscars are very Intelligent, if you train it right you can pet it if you want I know someone whose Oscar they can pet but only the owner. :( my Oscar won't let me do that ;) It'l bite
anyway fish are a low matinence animal, you just clean the tank every month, give them there food, and change the filter.
The fish tanks better than starring at the T.V. and you know where your pet is at all times ;)

Well what a great topic! I was thinking of getting a pet, but what should I get? I'ce never had a pet before and am looking for something 'low maintenance' One day I would like to have a Corgi but until then I'm thinking along the lines of some reptile or small rodent, maybe even fish. So does anybody have suggestions?

Yah, but nobody is home during the day....kittens I'm fine with amd old cats are nice but I'm still warry of cats because the whole scratching thing. Also I'm allergic to cats! So a cat is really out of the question but thanks for the advice, maybe I'll get a cat one of these days

We've had a poll on this before that cats won...now the apathetic cat vote is failing to turn out!
