Donsig

Listen to this, I will be very fair, you guys post a fully fledged defense plan for Japanatica
that involves no conquest following the turnchat 31 (today). For every plan you post, I will poll it at any time against existing doctrine, and I will poll it as fairly as possible.
But the alternative must be worked out, not just negating. This means you need to look into troop movements, target cities, which cities to sacrifice and so on.
I will then poll this immediately afterwards. Of course Maung Chunk , Veii, Cumae and Pisae will be taken, Forbidden Palace will be built and so on. In fact, the retaliatory doctrine is separate from the FP, and stands on its own merits. I will also poll a pure defense doctrine and a one city capture doctrine, when I get into office the 1. Nov.

Options will be

Homeland defense only
Seize City X
Seize city A, B, C
Optional Seize A, B , C and D
Abstain

I will also specifiy in the poll which wonders and resources that are involved.

Sounds fair ?

I think we're micromanaging the war too much. For four demogames, if a civ attacked us, we'd just take any city in the war plan and had a general stopping point. Never "cities A, B, C or A, B and not C, or A, and not B and C, or... etc" you get the point.

Well, we are not micromanaging more than we have to, all we do is to let the people decide on the extent of the war. I find it interesting to cooperate with troubled souls. :)

I don't see anything wrong with the "micromanaging" going on. Afterall, planning out a war is the MSAV's job. My only worry is that we may end up like Germany in WWI and micromanage everything so perfectly that we don't know what to do if things don't go our way. Seeing as Provolution is so keen on doctrines, I wouldn't mind seeing some contingency planning in case the unexpected happens (say, we're unable to take Veii or the Iroqouis take Odawara).

yeah for contingencys i think a big one should be what if the north gets involved in the war. I think for this military alliances will work best, cause if we attack planing to wipe them out then these will be good or If we attack like the doctrines say it should take about 30 turns and by then the treatys will be up anyway.

meh i think we in the military hope to play the defensive on the northern front if it may become active and throw in most of our forces into a quick and decisive victory in the South than turn north - this is a unoffficiol opinion and does not reflect the minds of the MSAV

I'll make a deal with you Provolution:

You poll what you want and I'll poll what I want and rather than complain about the posting of the polls we'll discuss what is being polled. Deal?

Hey, if you accept this deal we can call it something snappy like a demogame! :mischief:

Micromanging is a beneficial thing to our country. But we don't all have to be in on the details. It's quite possible to come up with a general plan. Start with a concept like defensive war. Flesh it out a bit with a definition. Let's say *defensive war* means we kill as many enemy troops as posible, pillage enemy territory, defend all our cities (retaking any we lose in the war) but don't occupy any enemy cities. Now if I were DP that's something I can understand very easily. If I were a micromanaging MSAV I could take that and come up with a plan. I could poll the plan or just put it into my game play instructions. Just using this as an example. We can all see that such a defensive war has little support. But this idea can be extended to any other type of war or situation our country faces.

I commend your work on the Doctrinal polls Provolution but blindly sticking by the results of any polls when circumstances change is silly. As is thinking different aspects of running our country are seperate and stand alone. War with the Iroquois and building the Forbidden Palace are (were) inextricably bound together. When this is recognized and accepted it becomes clear that we need to step back and re-evaluate the Doctrine in light of the new situation. This does not necessarily mean repolling it. Start with a discussion. Say, *Hey, things have changed that might cause us to rethink our Doctrine*. If the discussion largely backs what is already in place then stick with the Doctrine. At least then it is not being followed blindly. If the discussion is split then go back to the drawing board.

Well, we will have war if Hiawatha does not remove his troops. In that case then I support the Doctrine that says we take Mauck C, and three old Roman cities. (I think that is the current Doctrine.) And this seems in line with the results of this general poll.

Provo:
Your doctrines were posted by you as a citizen(since the term starts tomorrow), and donsig's poll was posted as a citizen.
When you become military minister you will have to find the WOTP using all of the polls, nullifying a poll first shouldnt come, this poll should always have some weight.... Why did past polls that attempted to nullify other polls go through? Also before your nullifying and stuff you might wanna wait till you are offically the military minister.

Also provo one thing I like about donsig's polls is we have both yours and donsigs,
yours are very complicated with close to 15 possible answers each, and have many polls, while donsigs are very simple and to the point, it would be nice to have both, especially because I can see some citizens just not voting in your polls because of how complicated they are.

I also have to agree with CT, careful micromanaging isnt needed and all it does is put strain on the DP

Yes, finally people who agree with me! This is what I've been saying all along, for all the planning and all the work done, the unexpected can happen, and then the diehards continue to stick to their plans and everything just goes to hell because there is no flexibility! It's happened in wars all throughout history. What I've said is to make a general guideline plan, instead of planning each and every step, because we all know that life isn't perfect and things are going to end up a hell lot different than what we wanted.

Well Blackheart, do not underestimate me and Civanator, as long as you play ball, you are safe.
