Chieftain
I know situations like this have been posted before, but I'm pretty frustrated at the moment and I need to vent so please forgive me if I'm rehashing old stuff.
I'm playing as Mayan (bts) on prince. I'm on the NE corner of a large continent, I have 8 cities and directly to my west is Gilgamesh. To the west of him is Isabella, and to the sw of him is Kublai Khan.
I am going for an apostolic palace or cultural win. I have 5 religions (not sure how but I'm not going to knock it) and am doing well with techs/culture. Gilgy and I share Hinduism as our state religion, and everyone on the map has at least one city with it except for the dutch. You see, with the dutch, I had sent a caravel over with a missionary and as I landed I saw a hut that had yet to be popped. So I popped it. And a hostile warrior popped and killed my missionary. Sigh.
Anyway, I've been using Gigly as a tech partner as well as a buffer between me and Issey/Khan. We were like +14 diplomatic and he was friendly (only one -1 for close borders) and he was often at war with both of them. I'd started to build up a nice little armory of knights and macemen (and then cutlassars and musketmen) because Issey was furious at me and and I was just waiting for them to attack. I'd also been asked by Gigly on more than one occasion to join him in the war against khan/issey, and being the nice fellow that I am I couldn't refuse.
So, at some point the war between Gigly and issey/khan stopped and things were going ok. Khan had a stack down by one of my southern cities so I sent a stack of my own down there just in case. Sure enough, after 10 turns Khan declared war on me.
What pisses me off is, so did Gilgamesh! My friend! My compatriot! He went from friendly with me and warring with khan to declaring war on me WITH khan. What's more, he won't even TALK to me. He's still 'pleased' with me (now with -3 for war goodness) but I can't even negotiate a peace. I should also note that when the apostolic vote came up for peace with me, i lost by 3 points, and Gigly said he was going to Defy it anyway WTH!
I'm ok with people being friendly and attacking you. I as a human player do it all the time. However, I was far from weak militarily (only khan is up with me with regards to military tech) so there really was no reason for him to attack, unless khan bribed him, but he was just at war with khan 10 turns ago and they had been at war on and off the whole time, so how can that even be an option?
Anyway, I'm done venting. I'll survive this, I just think it's sort of dumb. Not so much that he attacked me, but he did it along side his former (10 turns!) enemy.
What I think I'd really like to see is that if someone (or you) attack someone who you are pleased with, everyone should give you a -1 diplomatic ding for 'We can't trust you!' and if you are friendly, it should be -2 or -3 or something.
