As I said i'm really new to the game and i'm trying to get to the point where i can win alot on noble before i try to move up. However the game seems to always think that i build the wrong things where. Usually if i have a commerce point then i build a cottage, and farms on lands with bread points. Obviously after CS. Please help!

What do you mean, the game thinks u put them in the wrong place? Do the automated workers build over them? in which case dont worry the automated workers have been said to be worse than pillaging enemy armies
It sounds as if you are doing ok, farming food intensive tiles like floodplains is what i do, mine hills etc.
